Recent Activity on My Comments Pony Request: I live on this page, but would find it more useful if I could limit how far back it goes. For example, if there were an option to "don't show any comments over 12 hours old", etc. What say you?

There's a little clickable tab thingy labelled 'My Comments', as well as a 'My Comments' clickable link in the list-of-things-to-do near the top on the front page. Clicking each identically named thing leads to markedly different pages, one of which is useful (the one which puts your comment in context), and one of which is not (the one which just lists the posts you commented on). This is deeply ontologically upsetting. Also, when you post a thread on Metatalk, the text entry box is labelled 'Description:', rather than, e.g., 'Text:', or 'Post:'. I feel this additional category violation affront is essentially a slap in the face.

When I view my "My Comments" page, everything after this comment is small. There seems to be no closing tag. The original post page is fine. Is there some auto-closing mechanism that needs to be implemented in the new My Comments page?

For this thread in 'My Comments' in my profile, and in the other people's profile I checked, the comments are out of order. The comment appearing after mine in 'My Comments' appears before mine in the thread.

I like going back to check on new conversation in some of the threads I’ve commented on. In others, I’d really prefer not to. Using “My Comments” means there’s no way to not scroll by the recently updated threads. Like today’s “City Songs” thread. I don’t need/want to revisit that but every time I load the “My Comments” page it’s at the top. [more inside]

I was using My Comments to locate a previous post via my comment. Wots up with the My Comments page only lists the past 7 days?!!?

Ok, Maybe I should post more often. Then, I use search, and using my user ID I get nada. Then I used google site search with time limit of 3 months and I get posts from 2004. Oddly, this Google results page is missing the "sort by date/relevance". Same for Yahoo; no date on results sort.

Regardless, this leads me back to a simpler question. Why does the My Comments page limit the results to 7 days? Now I can't rememebr what the post was to begin with, but I would like to hear why the forced limit on this page.

How do I review my past comments? It was easy enough with the old layout. Now, when I click the 'My comments' link I can find out which threads I commented in, but I can't find any link to the comment itself. What am I missing?

A "sort by my comments" thingy on Ask Metafilter would make it easier to monitor threads that one is interested in. There is the potential for abuse, but since the time-limit on questions there has recently been extended, I don't think it would be all that dangerous.

The My Comments page is up and ready for testing. It scours the comment databases to find all the comments you've left in the past 7 days, then shows you the thread you left them in, along with the comments that followed yours, up to the last ten comments. I've been using it for the past hour or so and it's great for keeping up on threads I left comments in days ago.

I'll clean up the layout and look eventually, but for now, it's the companion to the My Posts page, and I'm open to feedback or any problems you find. The URL will stay there, so feel free to bookmark both.

Minor bug in "My Comments" sorting which predates the new server. When you pick "My Comments" the drop down on the newly sorted page defaults to "date", therefore you can't go back to sort by date from sort by my comments.

This is probably not worth much investigation, but I'm curious to know if it's happening to anyone else. When sorting by "my comments", the commented threads are in reverse chronological order, except that one thread (http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/9401) from July 2001 has for some reason sandwiched itself in between December 2001 threads and threads from 2002.

During today's name-server downtime, I noticed that when I connect directly to the IP, I can't list threads by "my comments". The listing menu only had three choices. When I access through "www.metafilter.com" I can; the menu has all four. I have no idea why this might be.

If I use the 'My Comments' option on the front page, it has started showing my comments posted this time last year, I guess there's no year included in the search.

I note a new option on the pulldown: "My Comments". I just thought I should point out, though, that it didn't appear until after I'd selected some other option first: that is, the menu only had three options on it the first time.

Nifty, though.
