Weeee're back
Ugh. Ok, we should be back now, mostly working. I'm sure there are lots of little things I need to fix and I'll try and get things going over the next couple days.
Full -text search indexes go!
So I finally got around to researching full-text search indexes for the database server today. I whipped up some indexes (that are updated hourly) and ran some tests: searches using the indexes were 5-10x faster than the old way. So I brought back tag and post search for logged in users on the search page.
Consider this a test for the next few days, as I would like to bring search back in all sorts of ways (searching a user's posts, favorites, etc), and hopefully this doesn't kill the database server like it has in the past.

Mefite nudist arrested on child sex abuse charges
A freaky unfortunate turn of events: As an update on a very old thread on nudism that questioned and debated the gray area between nude adults and nudist children in the setting of a nudist colony, one defender of nudist culture from that discussion was arrested on charges of child sex abuse late last year (still being held awaiting trial afaict). It's freaky to go back and re-read the debate knowing what eventually came to pass.
14 bucks project tabled
Aw, almost a year has passed since the 14 bucks project launched and it looks like bird0g hung it up before even doubling the money. I ran into this while tagging my archives, figured it was worth mentioning again.
Mathowie updates code March 2003
In an attempt to conserve resources, I've streamlined a good deal of the code for non-members, who should be getting a new flat homepage every five minutes. This shouldn't affect logged in users, but if anyone finds any problems, either post here or email me. I'm going to do the same with MetaTalk in a few minutes.
New and improved Metatalk
The new and improved MetaTalk is now live. Feel free to tell me what you think about it, and bring up any bugs you find in the bugs area.
The old format was date based, like the weblog, but things discussed here weren't really date dependent. If someone asked for a new feature or highlighted a bug, and I didn't fix it in a week, the post was basically gone forever.
I think the new format meshes better with the way I'd like MetaTalk used - discuss and read topics based on the subject, instead of the date.
