Feature Request: AskMeFi "amendments," long after a thread has been closed. Maybe 3% of the questions I've answered, life goes on, I learn, and I wish I could add something to the boneheaded advice that was supplied by an earlier me, so future searchers see it.

I'm curious and Want to Know Things, particularly: what ever happened to X in AskMeFi? And what about when X needed X? Did they get it? What about anonymous' certain issue... down there?

I posted
this thread on coming out of the closet several months ago and I've updated it a couple of times since. I left a final update at the end of the thread for those who might be interested.

We added a bunch MeFi Mail updates that seemed worthy of a post here (and if you have more ideas maybe add them here)

We're in the process of updating the server. You probably noticed about 20min of downtime and things may be up and down throughout this evening but should resume and hopefully be faster later today and tomorrow.

I had this idea when encountering the problem of wanting to contact a metafilter member of their public facing email address not being filled in...
How about doing what PayPal, banks and universities do - they present a user on login with a page which they click 'confirm' on to get to the usual start page. On the confirm page would be form fields with the information metafilter currently has for them:
lat, lon
flickr ID
email address
URL
etc
it would give them a chance to update it (and the email address field would have some *decent* obfuscation, either images ala Facebook or the current SOTA JavaScript).
I think often the reason this isn't filled in isn't out of choice it's because the user in question simply hasn't got around to it, doesn't know he/she has a profile or hasn't changed it since they first enrolled.
What say you? I don't think doing this would cheese people off and I think it would really be a boon for the site.

RE: the infamous airnxt post (which is now closed)
an update
http://ask.metafilter.com/27155/is-an-ebay-fraud-seller-free
it has been a while since i checked back on the above post,
but it looks like airnxt is still up to his old tricks, selling fake chanel handbags.
oh, and his feedback is not private anymore.
Two weeks for delivery! Received a fake! Sick to my stomach! Out $510!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290069288442
he must be stopped!
ok, before you post comments about how you need to check sellers feedback, please read the link to the thread.
the guy in the original post was pretending to be a victim of an ebay scam, but was actually the person doing the scamming.

Feature request: Allow a follow-up post on closed threads by the original FPP poster.
I often come across relevant and important information about subjects I made a FPP about months ago, but the thread is closed and it's not worth making a new FPP about it. It would be nice if the person who made the original FPP had the ability to make a single follow-up post after the FPP has closed.
The example I had in mind was
this thread about Citizenre solar-power, and this new story
Citizenre: A House of Cards, an important development that should be in the archived thread.

Let me display my ignorance about RSS. Since there are so many AskMeFi links, I miss posts via RSS on my MyGoogle page. Is there a way to increase the frequency at which RSS updates? Is this a Google problem?

Almost a year ago, I asked metafilter what to do to remove carpet glue from hardwood floors, and a not insignificant number of people asked for an update.
Here it is.

Back in December I asked for vehicle recommendations, and I just wanted to follow up: we bought a 1999 Subaru Forester, based on the words here and of a friend of our who owns an Outback. What it all came down to was good value, great safety, and even though I paid more than I wanted to I'm happy with this step up instead of a step sideways into a RAV4 or a junkier, older vehicle. Thanks!

Matt, I'm not trying to be irritating here; but I am wondering, if you're not going to update the sideblog anymore, is there any reason to keep it? (And for the more anal among you, yes I'm well aware that it can be collapsed).

So I posted
this (about trying to rid myself of two cats), and then there was
this, and since it caused a bit of a stir, I thought a brief follow-up couldn't hurt. [more]

My thoughts flashed back to yet another of the negative MetaFilter comments.
Earlier this year some Mefites were rather mean [
mea culpa] to a girl called Laura who had Chris Rock's old phone. In an
update she tells how it all turned out pretty good for her, thanks, in part, to Metafilter - still, don't be expecting her round here any time soon.

Update to the thread detailing my friend getting busted by the cops: He made a plea bargain with his court appointed lawyer and had his sentencing dropped to 3 years probation with Alcohol Rehabilitation classes. He doesn't get drunk anymore.

What is view on posting updates/new developments/new articles in comments of one's old posts? I searched but could not find. Thanks.

Matt -
One thing that would be cool(and i thoughtyou had mentioned before) is the option to be notified when someone has posted to a thread that you had already posted in.
Examp: I posted a comment under the 'Portman poses' thread. User cjd posts a comment in the same thread.
Based on my preferences it shoots me an email notifiying me that the thread has been updated.
we've got this working with the evolt code pretty easily. if you want the code, lemme know.
thanks man :)
