Metatalk layout in Firefox unusual December 29, 2005 7:01 PM Subscribe
At least in Firefox for Mac, the layout of Metatalk is weird. There's no lefthand margin; and the top of the page contains these links, etc.:
MetaTalk is a discussion area for topics specific to MetaFilter itself, ranging from bug reports to feature requests to questions of content. The posts are sorted by date, and tagged by category.
Some helpful links:
MetaFilter meetups that are in progress, being planned, and/or coming soon
MeFi Status Blog

All sorts of extra MetaFilter stuff

He's playing with the layout. A footer just appeared as I was refreshing the page.

Safari too. AskMe looks fine but MeFi has a weird footer.

It looked weird for me like PP first described, fine on reload.

That's what it looks like when the CSS didn't load properly, usually because you hit stop. Click refresh and it'll sort itself out.

the bottom thing's still there? a feature or a bug?
(it looks weird--like it belongs on some corp. site or something)

Just reload your CSS. I'm still tweaking it.

The firefox button at the bottom is ugly and extends the footer by an inch (at least on my 1024x786 notebook). Considering the empty space between the "Links" and "Sites" columns and the "Sites and "Etc." columns, you'd think you could squeeze it in on the right.

How do I do that? Does it involve giving money to Halliburton?

It looks pretty broken in Safari 2.0.2(416.13). Oh, hey, look! The text in the comment box's textarea is microscopic. Yes, Metatalk is still busted.

What's the "Etc. Search?" Is that like a search of... you know... the rest of the stuff?
kidding kidding..... as long as we're doing dev in prod, can we ape user testing on the member boards? :)

Refresh your css in safari (shift-reload). Everything looks as it should now in Win/IE, Firefox, and Safari.

Footer nav looks good -- Flickresque.
Did I suggest that one? *preens*

Yeah stavros, I was definitely copying flickr a bit there. I realized today after reading a long thread that the footers are almost useless, so I should at least bring the header functionality to the bottom. So for now, that's what it's got. I might add more links later, to make it more of a bucket of everything sitemap.

Ok, done. Added to Ask MeFi too. Be sure to force a reload of the CSS file in your browser to see the changes.

The Bold/Link/Spellcheck toolbar at the bottom of the comment box blends in roo much with the background.
But don't let my pickiness get in the way

wheelieman, force a reload to get the new stylesheet.
And people wondered why I kept most of the CSS inline all these years...

(I apologize for grousing on an above thread). The footer's pretty well fixed, aside from that Firefox button that's just huge and ungainly. Does that mean that the sidebar's been fixed on MeTa main?
