Metafilter uptime and performance has been excellent lately; Pages load in an instant and I haven't seen a JRun error in weeks. Thanks Matt!

True, but can you do something about some of the horrid threads?

I haven't seen a Jrun since November. MeCha mourns.

Good work, Matt. Thanks.

True, but can you do something about some of the horrid threads?

Do you think perhaps you could do something about the horrid threads?

Perhaps by, oh, I don't know, not dropping the kids off at the pool all the time. Or, maybe, even doing something besides whining about how bad MetaFilter is all the time? Or maybe, just maybe, actually posting something you thought was good? More than once a year?

I know, I know, wild and crazy ideas and all. Totally way the fuck out there. Real acid-eating spaceman timecube shit, not even in the same dimension as the box. Like, wow. Totally far out. Freaky.

I miss Uncle Fes JRUN.

Admit it fvw, you just wanted to be the first to use the brand new category.
posted by panoptican at 12:19 AM on January 6, 2006

I thought that shortened downtimes were due (at least in part) to the miracle of cronjobs.
posted by jenovus at 12:41 AM on January 6, 2006

panoptican: It's not a new category, though you seem to have found some bug that's stopping the other posts in the category from showing up in the category view. This thread from last year is in the uptime cat too for instance (one of keswick's, just for the heck of it. Call me a suckup will you…).

true, it's been pretty damn solid.
any idea what fixed it?

maybe it's been the reduced server load since everyone's at Christmas?

site downtime had been awful (for Europeans at least), just prior to the holidays, and it seems unlikely that any major changes happened over Christmastime... but what do I know.

Normally just alluding to "jinx!" in a thread like this would be jinxful, but it appears Matt has made a deal with the JDevil.

Jinx, jinxirific, jinxipoo, haha! Nothing!

Look, we all need better threads, but some of us are po' and have to shop at Goodwill.

Nice uptime btw. *whistles*

That's hot.

I don't come around quite as often now that there's no JRun to greet me.

Funny, I got an error when trying to connect earlier today. It was the first I'd gotten in a while. It just goes to show you, well, something.

I think anything longer than 8 hours on that chart is my software fucking up, actually.
posted by cillit bang at 7:49 AM on January 6, 2006

Omiewise, I did, too, but it didn't last very long.... and yes - it was the first in quite a long time.

I've noticed a change for the better.

loquacious, I just want to take a moment to thank you for coming in here to shit on this thread, just to tell someone else to stop shitting in other threads.

That is all.
posted by mkultra at 9:56 AM on January 6, 2006

mkultra, I'm actually glad that loquacious said that -- it's actually true. It's amazing to hear PP lament the quality of threads when he's so much part of the problem, crapping on everything he can and generally acting like a five year-old, and it's a reasonable, logical reply for loquacious to say that that's the case.
posted by delfuego at 10:12 AM on January 6, 2006

Eh, I briefly considered not feeding the troll that is ParisParamus, but: what delfuego said.

There's a difference between coming into a thread and being contrarian and off topic - as PP did with his post, here, up at the top - and calling someone on it.

It's rather annoying when the (few) people that seem to bitch and whine the most about the quality of MetaFilter seem to personally do the least about it - and even more annoying when they're a glaring part of the problem - and even worse when the power to add better stuff and otherwise make MeFi better is right there in front of them. (As I've said many a time before.)

Either put up, put out, shut up, or get the fuck out of the kitchen, no?

I hesitate to even post this rebuttal, least this nice thread become even more sullied and devolve even further. I beg all of your pardons. Let's just leave it at this, if at all possible:

Praise be to the uptime. JRun is dead! Long live Jrun!

Now can we get search back?

Or just user search. I always remember who wrote the comment I'm looking for, but I can't remember their user number.
