I would like to have a setting for AskMefi and MetaTalk for opening links in a new window.

what browser are you using? for me on firefox (maybe i had to adjust something) i get new windows (well, new tabs) by middle-clicking.

And on Safari, all you need to do is ctrl-click or cmnd-click... but I agree it would be nice to have the option as a preference setting.

I would like to have a setting where I don't have to see this feature request again. Guess that's not going to happen either.

Use something other than IE and you'll have it.

What are you talking about, juiceCake? Right-click, "Open in new window" works fine in IE.

since we have the option for the blue, it'd be nice to have it for all the sections as well. i don't think it's hard to do.

yeah, I imagine that what furvyn was saying in the first place. Suck it, haters!

In addition to right-click, open in new window, there is shift-click..

However, such an option already exists for MeFi, I don't see why people have to snark against the poster about wanting the same for other sections of MeFi...

Uh, right. That's what I always do as well. What is the problem?

It's already enabled on the other sites, isn't it?

I mean, I thought I did this ages ago. If not, it's about 10 minutes work.

There isn't a problem. There's a request for a feature available for one portion of the site to be implemented on other portions of the site. It's not a feature I use, but it's there and the request is reasonable.

To be clear: furvyn did not say, "man, I wish there was some way, any way, that I could open links in a new window when I read the web in general."

I was in tab thinking Mode and I haven't used IE in so long I'd forgotten the obvious. But then, that's all probably obvious as well.

Wow. I've never noticed it. And I still don't!

"Open Links" radio button in the Preferences area, juiceCake.

oh, me too. but I don't have a mouse hooked up to my laptop all the time and it's annoying to splat-tap to imitate middle click--that's two hands versus one click, or navigating away and then backclicking however many times to return to my mefi context.

(and I hate those pages that steal the ability to backclick from you)

New windows should be working in metatalk, as well as timezones on comment pages (like this one). Ask Mefi is next.

I have to say I never noticed this feature either. Perhaps because it's so easy to do without any help from Mefi.

Yay! I was hoping for this. I did notice the "open new window" was missing from the green and the gray.

As long as I am posting, Projects still does not render for OmniWeb. At all. I get white text on a white background. I'd posted about this previously but I am not sure if you ever saw it, Matt.

I don't think this is a stupid request at all. There's no real reason there should be a different standard for the three main areas of MeFi. Learn one, learn them all. You shouldn't have to be clued in to the intricacies of mice and keyboard commands in order to get Page 3 to do exactly what Page 1 does, no matter what the web site. Transparency, intuitiveness: these are excellent goals.

Now that #1 already fixed, by all means, let's continue debating it.

Miko, changing things across all subsites is a pain, since I'm not a hardcore application programmer. I know it's great when eBay does things exactly the same across all their versions, but I'm just one guy.

I test code out on MetaFilter, since it gets the most traffic and feature requests, then I migrate the feature to the other sites. This one kind of fell through the cracks, since most of the time I migrate features over in a short timespan, and the feature has been on metafilter for years. Sorry that it leads to confusion like this, but it does happen since this is the easiest way to test out new code before deploying site-wide.

I apologize for my comment sounding pushy, mathowie, and am in grateful awe of everything you do. I was really just trying to support furvyn by saying that the goal was worthy, so no need of a pile-on. Sorry for the tone.

I am on firefox, and I think the whole new window thing is off a bit in MeTa. Take the thread above as an example:

What just happened to AskMefi? For about five minutes all the insides had the "nothing to see here" page or a strange error page. Anyone else? I thought my work had finally gotten around to banning it. I started working on my resume...

When I hit "18 comments", I go to the thread in the same window. However, when I hit "(2 new)", a new window opens up. This is not happening on AskMe or MeFi. This isn't supposed to happen is it? Just letting you know, not complaining. Good work, etc.

A BIG yay for the timezone equality. Thanks Matt! I've been continuously disorientated for a long time.

ND, there are probably loads of little bugs like this all over the site, I just need to hard-code in targets for all internal links. I'll fix that one, but be sure and list any more you find.

That one is fixed. Thank you. I am sure that you will get them all. Don't stress too much.
Also, I prefer to go by Mr.¢.
