Mefi projects: promoting porno piracy. Complete with image hotlinking, and instructions for disabling refer sending, to avoid .htaccess protection. Crap like this is the worst of the web, IMO.

I don't know, I thought it was an interesting hack, apart from the ethical concerns (just like I think most server hacks (including hacks of my own systems, yes) and viruses are interesting in how they accomplish their goals).

I left it up after I first saw it because it was sort of a loose social network for going out and finding (and tagging) porn to share with other users of the site. It's sorta web2.0 porn, if you will.

I try my best. And I'm disapointed this is sticking around. Just because someone goes all web2.0 dosn't mean they're not making the internet suck.

I don't have that much of a problem with pirating porn, but hotlinking? bleh.

The hotlinking is kind of lame, but this is a small site and I'm sure if it ever got big the people hosting servers would do something about it.

hotlinking != piracy.

Nothing is being duplicated, packaged, or distributed for sale elsewhere. Linking to a file that has been published to the Internet by its original author is not illegal. (I hate hotlinking, and actively work to prevent it on my servers, but let's not conflate the issues.)

Please explain!

Nothing very enlightening. It just irks me that people that generally seem to get that stealing music or other media is a Bad Thing™ (aka MetaFilter) often seem to think it's OK to steal porn. A lot of internet porn is made by people who are very much struggling to get by (yes, a lot is corporate too) so, if you like it...pay for it! That's all.
