Metatalktail Hour: What would your Midas Touch? ✨

Mutant Lobsters from Riverhead asks: "You have 17 pounds of gold (at minimum worth $50,000 in today's buying power), a time machine, and the infrastructure to fund one arts project at any point in history. What do you fund?" 'Arts' covering any human technology / performance / creation, in this case. [more inside]

Calling all Cards!

Having just mailed my cards for Project G.I.V.E. M.E. (that is, Great Internet Valentine Exchange, Metafilter Edition), and having had at least as much fun as I did with the winter holiday cards, I'm wondering if there's enough momentum and interest for another project. [more inside]

Metatalktail Hour: Project Updates

Good Saturday Evening, MetaFilter! Tonight for metatalktails, filthy light thief wants to know how far you got on your NaNoWriMo this year, or share how any other project they're working on (or recently finished!) is going. If it's a THING, pictures are great! [more inside]

Joy in June

I'd like to offer a challenge to our community. Many of us are experiencing Politics and especially Trump fatigue. Some days the flood of bad news and wtf-ery seems incessant, depressing and endless. Why don't we try and counter that a little by filling the front page of the site throughout June with posts about things we like and love? Stuff that makes us laugh, brings us joy or inspires our sense of wonder. [more inside]

We Need a Hero

@mathowie: "I think RSS is so important that I'd take a job (leaving MeFi) at any startup aiming to make an improved Google Reader (w/ social features). [...] I'm serious, and feel free to email me. MetaFilter can continue with the employees running things."

I think that this maybe merits some serious discussion here, pronto. [more inside]

Hey, what have you got to lose?

Catfood asked where she could find an intelligent weight loss support group online— a Metafilter for dieters, basically. Ferociouskitty set one up on Spark People. It seemed like a great idea that could use a little publicity.

More than one feedback per project please

Should it be possible to leave feedback for the same project more than once? I left Caffeine_Monkey a piece of feedback that is sure to confuse him, as it was actually meant for a different project.

Is the Metafilter writer's group dead?

I guess the Metafilter writer's group is dead? I don't see any updates from the past two months.

Can I repost this project because of new link?

I posted a short film I made to Projects but hours after I did, the site hosting it took the video offline. It's back up with a new URL http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/6370 but I can't edit my old project post nor can I repost it. I had no control over the hosting site and this video is for a contest where only the 10 most popular films move on to the next round. Voting ends October 10. Would it be possible to repost to Projects?

More functionality from project, music listings

In the projects RSS feed, the URL points to the submitted project, not the projects page, so in order to vote or comment I have to go to projects and find the link manually. Also, it would be nice if on the music page, you could favorite and playlist songs right from the main listing, rather then just on the individual song pages, so that if you're listening to a bunch of songs, in order, you could favorite without needing to change pages.

You might post my project to MeFi, but can I add related info?

At some point down the road I will release a project to Projects. I think it's cool and interesting enough that a MeFi post could well be deserved, not just linking to my project but to a number of related sites and documentation. I'm very close to this project, so I can handily write up what I think is a good and wide view of the issue to do more than promote my project. However, I don't want to be accused of self-linking and instead would rather post it to Projects with enough info for someone else to post on MeFi about it. Would suggesting someone do this in the writeup in Projects be going too far?

PS. Additional suggestion for the form I'm currently filling in: "Projects related"

Mefi projects: promoting porno piracy

Mefi projects: promoting porno piracy. Complete with image hotlinking, and instructions for disabling refer sending, to avoid .htaccess protection. Crap like this is the worst of the web, IMO.

MetaFilter Fundraising for Fun

Announcing the new MetaFilter Fundraising for Fun project. dios and rothko/AlexReynolds have agreed to let you guys vote with your dollars, for charity. Throw some cash into the till for the guy you want to take a break for a week, and in the end it all goes to Creative Commons' fundraiser. Think of it as a charity dunk tank: you put down five bucks to toss a few at the guy you love to hate. It'll run for a week, so let's make the fun last.

Anyone still interested in the PHP-Metafilter project?

Is anyone still interested in the PHP-Metafilter project? From looking at the sourceforge pages, it doesn't appear that any work was ever done on it. I've been working on a project for my company, part of which involves our own internal version of metafilter. It's not an exact clone of MeFi, but it's definately inspired by it. I'd be glad to donate it to the project, if everyone finds it appropriate & acceptable.

MetaFilter FAQ.

I've made mumblings about this elsewhere, but I'm trying to compile a MetaFilter FAQ in the hopes that it'll help new users figure out just what the heck's going on here. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I don't know everything. You can find the raw XML file here. If there's anything you'd like to add, or seek clarification on or wish you'd known about when you started joining in the conversations, please let me know.

Also, let me know your MeFi username, e-mail address and URL (if you feel like sharing) so I can give credit where credit's due.
