Links Of Interest idea March 3, 2006 6:51 AM Subscribe
I occasionally see something funny or mildly interesting that I'd like to post. But I don't want to post to the front page for a small item, like a game, video, or a friend-of-a-friend's funny caption. Is there room, for, or interest in, a sidebar for Links Of Interest, with limited text, and maybe no comments? [mi]
MetaChat likes them, theora--come on over if you want. : >
There have been a lot of games and videos posted here too tho--funny's always good.

Why bother with the seperation. A single link is not taking up much in the way of screen real estate on the front page, and is easy to skip by. I do this for most of the flash posts already.

What's in it for me? What's an FOAF? Why would I label myself as a yob?

Friend Of A Friend
As in, "A FOAF wants to know how to go about sticking a gerbil in his ass." Usually in reference to oneself.

Not quite sure if there'd be a point in this being on the site, but I suppose you could always propose a del.icio.us tag folk could use for the not-really-worth-a-post stuff ('minimefi', say), then make a wee page displaying them, then announce it on Projects?
I'd tag stuff accordingly, sure others would too...

Yeah, MetaChat, theora. We're all FOAFs there and you'll be surprised how many names you'l recognize, well, except mine.

If it's interesting, put it on the front page. Fuck the FPP Nazis.

What cillit bang said. Be self-critical, but trust your gut. If it's interesting and novel, it belongs on the FP.

I hear those scallywags over at MetaChat don't even require a link to make a post!

Go ahead and FPP it. The usual suspects will show up to bitch and moan but feel free to ignore them. You'll brighten somebody's day and, for that one joyous moment in time, it'll be the best of the web.

Small posts are the best ones, invariably. When you find a good link, you post it. That produces much better results than thinking up some topic and posting the first 5 google results.
