Straw poll. Do you view MetaFilter by: recent comments, most comments, my comments or date?

Whatever the default is.

Ah! the donkey vote in the straw poll.

But I can understand that mischief. I only recently started to play with the different ways of viewing comments and wondered how other users used it.

Recent comments. (And remember to take your pills, mischief.)

Thanks, for the reminder, crunchy! Gonna do that right now.

crunchland, Do you always view this way? Why do you view by "recent comments" rather than the default?
posted by tellurian at 4:36 AM on March 15, 2006

Does anybody view by "most comments" and if so why?
posted by tellurian at 4:38 AM on March 15, 2006

RSS. Then my comments.
posted by Eideteker at 4:49 AM on March 15, 2006

By date, primarily. Once a day or so I switch to "most comments," mainly so I can scroll down and see whose threads have gotten the least comments lately. I have a strange fascination with threads that get little to no activity.

I almost never use "my comments" or "recent comments."

RSS, then mr comments as well.

They Call Me MR Comments!

errr, yeah. I don't even use the same hand to type r and y... weird!

I use My Comments a lot, it helps to track conversations I'm interested in.
posted by OmieWise at 5:53 AM on March 15, 2006

I do a default front-page page view for any or all of the three major sections; and if I've got a couple live conversations I'm interested in, I move over to My Comments to keep track. Rinse and repeat as my attention dictates.

I think I once expressed indifference toward the (then-hypothetical?) My Comments feature. I'd like to retract that indifference, with a caveat—I love My Comments but it is largely responsible for my spikes of chattiness, which I just hadn't had the energy to facilitate when I had to track threads manually.

I view the whole site mostly from My Comments, though I'll read AskMe and MeTa from top down usually as well.

Date. I don't really comment enough anymore to make My Comments useful. Not that my comments were ever useful to begin with.
posted by DrJohnEvans at 6:47 AM on March 15, 2006

By date, then sometimes by My Comments, which is great for tracking interesting conversations but only if you have posted in them.
posted by LarryC at 6:48 AM on March 15, 2006

I don't understand: if you only view MeFi by "my comments," how do you find new threads to comment in?

Like LarryC, I read (well, skim) each site's front page as well as checking "my comments" for the conversations I'm participating in.

I have a big Metafilter tab that, upon middle-clicking, brings up
My Posts
My Comments
Metatalk
AskMe
Metafilter (by date)
which I then read in that order.

I just randomly click at whatever pops up on my monitor. What Web page is this, again?

AskMetaFilter and MetaTalk, by date...occasionally, via My Comments.
I don't view MetaFilter.
posted by Rash at 9:41 AM on March 15, 2006

I read everything via RSS (the main feeds, a couple of tag feeds, feeds of threads I've commented in and want to track) and click through to the occasional thread, but I sometimes have a look at My Comments too.

AskMetaFilter and MetaTalk, by date...occasionally, via My Comments.

AskMe and MeTa can't be sorted by anything but date, though I've often wished the dropdowns would be added for them.

I view MetaFilter with my web browser!

I view everything through RSS, with "My Comments" for keeping track of conversations where I've posted. The "front page" as it were might as well not exist to me.
