Look at all these answers- see a pattern?

Maybe we could include something in the FAQ about not copying and pasting the same "answer" to multiple, very old questions?

There's also the lying, since she says she's the anonymous girl in question on several of them.

Maybe she gets around a lot.

Pattern? What pattern?
posted by rooftop secrets at 1:53 PM on April 20, 2006

I see a pattern, yes.

OK, so she copied and pasted her answer a couple of times, and all her answers relate to pretty much the same kind of questions.

So what?

I don't really see any malice in her actions. If she happens to have something to offer on this subject, even if it is exclusively this subject, so be it. It's better than her going into another kind of question and derailing it with a snarky or otherwise unhelpful comment. And while cutting and pasting pretty much the same answer a couple of times could be considered lazy, given that (as you say) there is a pattern in the kind of questions she tends to answer, it stands to reason that one of her previous answers could be useful to the question asker, especially if the asker hasn't seen her answer before.

Lame call out.
posted by Effigy2000 at 1:55 PM on April 20, 2006

eh? haven't you just outed someone who was posting anonymous questions? i know she self-outed in one, but it seems unfair to out her everywhere if she was asking anonymously.

maybe i'm confused? sorry...
posted by andrew cooke at 1:56 PM on April 20, 2006

Easy now, she's a noob. She even explained herself for the most part:

I saw the great information here and the people seemed wise, so I joined specifically so I could post on this subject. You're correct in that I rambled. it was a particulary upsetting day yesterday. Anyway, as a new member I am not allowed to post for 7 days. I'm not the most patient person in the world. :-) Thanks for the advice. When I can post, I will post this in question format. :-) Have a great week!
posted by brain_drain at 2:02 PM on April 20, 2006

Obviously she's really quite stressed about her relationship troubles. And who wouldn't be? So let's we cut her some slack for being ditzy about it while she counted down the minutes 'til she could finally get it all off her chest in a real AskMe post.

Flag 'em and let M/J delete 'em as they see fit. Sheesh.
posted by five fresh fish at 2:03 PM on April 20, 2006

She's not claiming to be the anonymous poster. She's saying that she's the girl in her relationship, which she is then going to describe. I think.
posted by unknowncommand at 2:18 PM on April 20, 2006

She posted her question in several older threads, it was pointed out that she would have better luck in actually posting the question, so she did once she was able to.
posted by modofo at 2:25 PM on April 20, 2006

Read the bottom three "answers". They all need to be deleted, since they're questions asked in other people's question threads.
posted by smackfu at 2:26 PM on April 20, 2006

I think the "I'm the girl" in several of the answers just meant that unlike the (male) posters, she was the female half of a relationship having similar problems.
posted by occhiblu at 2:38 PM on April 20, 2006

YES!!! When stated "I was the girl" I MEANT that I am the equal of those girls being discussed in that I am overweight with sexual troubles with BF. I DID explain myself and say that I COULD NOT POST until I had been a member for 7 days. THE DAY I COPIED AND PASTED those ansswers/questions, was the FIRST day I had ever even SEEN Metafilter. Sorry if what i did was such A HEINOUS crime in the Metafilter world. Geez... Won't happen again. I'm new for God's sake, so cut me some slack...

OK we all APOLOGIZE for SHOUTING at you and being SNOBBY but if YOU don't like PRETENTIOUS TWITS then WHY are YOU here?

Sheesh. Motion to close this thread.
posted by knave at 2:55 PM on April 20, 2006

No harm, no foul, VegasAnna, but you might want to cut back on the capitals and try to condense what you write a bit. We're not a notably patient lot here at Rancho MetaFilter.
posted by languagehat at 2:56 PM on April 20, 2006

And second the motion.
posted by languagehat at 4:56 PM on April 20, 2006

I say we take up a collection for ThePinkSuperhero--she's obviously paying by the byte for her connection. Otherwise, surely she wouldn't mind a few (somewhat lengthy, I admit) posts from someone who is deeply upset, needing support, and totally new here.

I mean, if VegasAnn starts in with this on a "Bush Lied!" thread, then maybe we can ban her. Then again, maybe it would be a nice change, those threads get so predictable...
posted by Squid Voltaire at 4:58 PM on April 20, 2006

I don't think it's that big of a deal. Maybe unnecessary, but I don't think it caused any harm. While older posts aren't left open just to be dumped in, if they're old posts then probably only a few people read them. But maybe someone knows better than I do.

And, well, I think some people join Metafilter specifically for AskMe: some like to give answers, and some need answers. In my opinion that's what makes it an asset.

Relax. One person criticized you — and if you take a moment to breathe, you'll see that several others replied that she was out of line. Any community has its petulant, reactionary tattletales. Just because you've met one or two catty cupcakes doesn't mean the whole community is jumping down your throat.

Welcome aboard. You'll learn the ropes.

Wait, S. V.

You heard "Bush Lied!"? About what? Is there a post you could direct me to? That sounds like a really interesting subject. I've kinda thought it myself, but haven't been able to find anyone else that thinks so, too. I wish there were a post like that where we could share notes. I'm starting not to like that guy.

VegasAnna; keep a cool head... and maybe stay away from this thread. Let it run its course until someone hopefully closes it. Seriously, this is the best course of action in situations like this. Trust me.

Or we could keep prodding her. This has the making of a classic flame out.

In fact, that wasn't really a hazing so much as an uncomfortable silence.

Actually, these days you can pick up a decent-condition Ford Escort for less than $600, which isn't really high-priced...

Oh, wait.
