Discussion area in MeFi Music? July 11, 2006 9:57 PM   Subscribe

How about a discussion area in MeFi Music for members to set up collaborations? There's a lot of talent among the members, and I think it would be pretty cool to have the opportunity to collaborate with people across the world.

Why not just try here? I don't really want to build a whole forum just for one subsite.

Seems like email/comments for specific private inquiries and the occasional MeTa post for Big Ideas should work well enough. A specific sanctioned forum seems like more than is necessary.

Hah, well I guess I didn't think it was appropriate to make a thread in MetaTalk directly asking for collaborators, but since I have your blessing I guess we can make this a call for collaborations thread.

One thing I'm working on is a song inspired by Italo Calvino's "Invisible Cities." It's hip hop, 4/4, over a great beat by a Finnish producer (which I suppose already makes it a worldwide collaboration) and I already have two verses and a c-part done. I was hoping for someone who might want to do the hooks, someone who can sing. If anyone's interested I can send along the unfinished version and the instrumental. If you want to hear my sound, just search for me in music. Thanks!

Maybe it's time to consider private messaging. Fixed mailbox limits. Only HTML style tags, or maybe none. Maybe opt-in user groups for list mailing. Should take care of most abuse possibilities.

I've been meaning to have a go at setting up a forum so maybe I'll try this out today. It's a good thought, Alexandros.

I'm still rooting for an ideas subsite, for all kinds of thoughtful collaboration, and to take the chatfilter/philosophy burden off of AskMe.

Well, for what it's worth I've put up some "MeFi Music Forums". Anyone is welcome to join and share their ideas and music. And as I have never hosted/administered forums before any advice will be most welcome.

First rule of administering forums: don't make a whole bunch of sub-forums until you've got lots of people in your main forum and there's an actual need for it. Done otherwise it makes the forums look kind of sad and unused.

It was more of an experiment learning/experience than anything. I'm quite confident it will go largely if not totally unused. :-)

I will collaborate with anything human/feline/robot. Possibly without success.

A bit off topic: So can people ask HiFi related questions on MeTa when they're technical and probably should be asked on AskMe? One of the problems I've noticed people encountering was conversion to mp3.
