Whatever happened to the compilation CD project from this thread? http://metatalk.metafilter.com/mefi/11734
I'm not trying to rush it or anything, just wondering...

It has been a LONG time. Most people preordered in April, so it's coming up on 6 months.

I just got contracts to sign so I think art work needs printing and then it's done.

Geez, smackfu, cortex collected tracks from 2 dozen contributers (after sorting through something like 3+ times that many submissions), arranged mastering, collection of rights permissions from all involved, original artwork... all on his own time (and the several others involved in mastering, legal legwork, art creation all volunteering as well...). I think a year timeframe for completing a project of this nature on these terms would be far from unreasonable.

Anyway. cortex can certainly answer for himself but, you know, he hardly ever hangs out around here so who knows when he'll see this thread (5, 4, 3, 2...)

The orphanage just got a multi-million dollar grant from the DHS to study radical brown-skinned librul mefite terrorists, so it doesn't need to be saved any longer.

Duh.

I'm really, really working on it. I've been trying to get some last-mile help turning our final-art jpegs into a duplication-firm-spec Illustrator template, but that's been a bit bumpy—I'm apparently not the only busy person on the planet. I've had a couple offers, and I'm going to follow up with another this morning and see if that comes through.

So as soon as I can either get that finished (*cough* HELP FROM ILLUSTRATOR NERDS *cough*), I can get final-final art to the dupe folks for proofing and get this show on the road. Then it's another 2-3 weeks for printing and shipping.

Believe me, I'm more eager than you are. I'll make a point of updating meficomp.com, something I've been too lax about.

I sent cortex a big old check and excel file of shipping info (and contracts!), so maybe we should make sure future monies go to him, website update perhaps?

Hum. That's a good point. Maybe time to do a redirect of that pre-order button; it was on my list of things to do before The Big Day, but sooner is better than later in case anybody decides to do a really belated pre-order.

I'm one of the Illustrator nerds cortex mentions. The problem I'm having is that the dupe firm doesn't have a 10-fold template, so I tried to get a hold of them and haven't heard anything back. :/

This is going to be a 10 fold booklet? Maybe I'm glad they didn't want it done in Photoshop, I'd have needed a new hard drive to handle the file. :)

OC—yeah, i'm going through the same thing. Hoping for a response, like, today.

(The other possibility, from the dupe firm's fee-for-service rundown, would be to hand them the final art files and about $100 and say, look, you do it. But I hate to spend folks' money on that if we can get it done for free.)

Maybe if you bastards weren't so busy with the "cortex, sing about X to the tune of Y" shit, he'd be able to get some work done.

We'll get it when we get it. And if we don't, I'm sure some of us know where cortex lives.

Uh...not that I don't enjoy the songs, mind you. I'm not calling the songs themselves shit. The songs are awesome.

But now that you've proven yourself capable of jumping through hoops, people will never stop asking.

Speaking of which, I'd like to hear a song about why the meficomp CD is late. To the tune of "Blowin' in the Wind". TIA

There's a reasonable chance that I'll put out a song titled, approximately, "It's About Fucking Time I Shipped These Things". And I hate to jinx things by guessing dates yet again, but I'd like to think I'd release that song by the end of September.

Noted. I've got a few folks who've thrown in so far, but if they all get hit by trucks I'll drop you a line.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is it too late to order one of these? And will people be able to order them after the initial pressing, or is it just a one-shot deal?

I apologize in advance if the answers to these questions mean more work for anyone, and thanks to everyone who's busted their humps to make this happen.

Doofus Magoo, worry not—it's not too late to pre-order (though I really ought to redirect pre-orders to my paypal so jess doesn't have to cut another, much smaller check), and more to the point you will absolutely be able to order once we press. The pre-orders were mostly to make sure we were on good ground to press in the first place, and we very much are; there'll be a formal announcement when the Go On Sale.

Well, speaking for myself, I think you'd get a lot more interest and/or money if there was some sort of prominent link to this project from the Blue: maybe a permanent sidebar mention?

I know I've been looking fruitlessly for information on the compilation CD for ages: the mention in this thread was the first time I knew there was even a site for it!

So, yeah, ordered, but maybe a sidebar link?

Matt has offered to pimp it already, and I will be delighted to have him do so, but I'd prefer to know that things are in the can and ready for the masses before he does that.

I feel bad enough for the folks who pre-ordered in April, and they knew they were in for a bit of a wait. I would not dream of stirring up another round of enthusiasm before I have those CDs stacked in my apartment ready for prompt mailing.
