"Is Matthew Haughey in the audience tonight?" -- John Hodgman, Powell's Bookstore - Portland. October 10, 8:10 p.m.
Matt, you evidently missed a nice present this evening. John Hodgman--writer, actor, hobo historian and all around expert--called you out at his book reading tonight in Powell’s saying a friend of yours had asked him to pass along a present.

aw crap. jessamyn said she mailed hodgman a sign that said I'm Not Matt Haughey. I figured he probably doesn't read his snail mail and I bet the reading would be super crowded tonight. I should have gone, but I decided to have a quiet dinner with my family instead of braving the crowds at the event.

My hipster birthday present!
jessamyn said she mailed hodgman a sign
Actually, this is what I did
- read on your del.icio.us links that you'd be there [the internets lied to me!!1!]
- emailed John to see if he'd do me a favor
- he wrote back saying "sure" and that he likes MetaFilter but I'd have to get a sign to him in advance & remind him
- called Powells to figure out how to do that
- made a sign & faxed it to Powells
- emailed a reminder
- waited... waited ... waited.
Gosh I hope a photo winds up here.

(Which goes to show, speaking of Apple, why those ads with Hodgman are so badly conceived. You're supposed to find the *other* guy more appealing?)

The Mac Guy is apparently an actor called Justin Long, who was on the TV show Ed and in the movies Dodgeball and Galaxy Quest.

so, who is he?
Dude, he's the junior senator from Nebraska that's been getting young people excited about politics again. Senator Hodgman's wry yet heartfelt "Voting is Dangerous" campaign has really connected with the 18-25 crowd, a typically apathetic bunch. Where the hell have you been that you missed all this?

I feel compelled (for no good reason) to mention that the girl at U of Waterloo in Microserfs would have been in my class, given the dates in the book and had she really existed.
Douglas Coupland keeps writing about my life, although he isn't quite aware of it.
