could there be a way to list items that have been favorited October 13, 2006 9:02 AM   Subscribe

This has probably been asked for before ... could there be a way to list items you have posted, either posts or comments that have been favorited within the last X amount of time? I have noticed that the favorite count goes up by one or two on my user page, but it's sometimes not obvious what has changed, and it ends up being some post I made 4 months ago.

You can already view a list of your contributions that have been favorited; I don't see how this is any better or worse. It makes sense to me.

I concur!

I'm a bit surprised that this request is coming from you, crunchland. I always thought that you opposed any feature implementation that artificially boosted one's ego/status on the site.

I agree with the request, BTW, but still believe that the entire system should be renamed to "bookmarks" instead of "favorites". There is still ample evidence to suggest that people use this system to highlight snarks, insults, and otherwise useless comments.

Every time this comment is favorited a puppy dies.

Everytime someone says they should be called bookmarks, a two-headed kitten dies of complications.

Let the deformed kitten deaths commence, I say!

If we're going to have favouriting, we might as well go all the way and have the site email us when we get one.

Actually, quite the opposite, SeizeTheDay. Just like "interestingness" over on Flickr, I think it's a really good thing to have anything that encourages people to make better posts or comments, even if it is a little bit shallow.

cillit bang - who said anything about "favouriting"? This isn't blighty!

While we're on the topic of favouriting, the "Displaying 1 through 8 posts" text on the savedfavourites page is incorrect. It's counting the number times all your posts have been favourited, not the number of posts. So if I had two posts that had been favourited four times each, it would say "1 through 8 posts" when it ought to say "1 through 2 posts."

This also applies for the favourited comments list.

I propose you change "favorites" to "shiny". Just do away with all of the thumbs up vs. bookmark vs. interestingness debate and allow people to "Mark as shiny". Then people might start to get that it's just an arbitrary tag.

And yes, I'm serious (well, okay, only halfway about the word shiny itself). As long as it says favorites, people are going to keep bringing up that it's not. Changing it to bookmark doesn't allow it to serve it's dual purpose. Change it to something arbitrary but positive and people will start to get that they can use it however they like. At least a shorter word would be nice.

+1 shiny because Joss Whedon! But they shouldn't be "shinies" and none of this "a shiny" business; they'd be "posts marked as shiny" and "shiny comments" and so on. Preservation of the adjective!

Well, yeah, I obviously fucked up the "a shiny" thing. I did a find and replace on favorite. I should rewrite history and fix that. Meh.
