Callout of a user's antics in imminently deleted double October 26, 2006 9:37 AM   Subscribe

Wow, Meatbomb has discovered something more annoying than 43 animated .gifs in a row. I don't know whether he should be awarded a prize for services to annoyingness studies or brutally kicked in the knackers. Probably the knackers one.

Well, see that's what happens when you get rid of the IMG tag: text. FREE IMG!

Doubles have been allowed to stand before, so dumping enormous text turds all over the shop could be considered forcing the issue.

People should really make their MeTa posts more informative so we can know what it is about which we are suppossed to be indignant. As it is, I had to read through that whole double post before concluding that this one is not necessary.

I dunno. If in doubt, pick something at random. Missing socks. Baby seals: Cute and fuzzy or underestimated menace? Parking meters. People who blockquote inside two nested small tags. Undersupervised children on a sugar/caffiene high.

Me? Today it's rainbows. I really hate the fuckers. Looming there all pretty-like in the air going 'la-de-dah i'm a fucking rainbow, look at me you stupid wet fucker haha!' and shit. Fuckers. Can't shoot 'em. Can't turn 'em off. Can't irradiate them with a megawatt magnetron. They suck so much.

So this is you posting to a MeTa thread about a callout about acting badly in a post . . .

Look, someone concocted a fascinatingly horrible new way of taking a shit on the site in our post-img tag world. We're not supposed to point that out any more? Why even have MetaTalk? Because if it's just for feature requests and meetup listings any more, then fuck it.

So annoying. Meatbomb, you're out of the site for a week.
posted by mathowie (staff) at 10:12 AM on October 26, 2006 [1 favorite]

GuyZero, please don't. Seriously, it's worse than heckling when you post ten pages of filler text like that. Just link to the damn thing if it is pertinent.

posted by GuyZero at 10:33 AM on October 26, 2006

OmieWise, it's the very definition of noise. I'd like to retain some semblance of signal here to offset off-topic noise. Posting several thousand word essays copied from somewhere online is totally pointless and slows the database and the site down having to store and fetch all of it.

Meatbomb posted 6 or 7 monster text files, about the equivalent of a book in a single thread. Maybe once is funny. Twice, perhaps. 6 or 7? That's inexcusable.

Lord knows that's precisely what I was doing. Spot on.

Look, cribcage, you might be right: those who miss the img tag are universally obnoxious, unselfconscious litterers, with a possible few exceptions (who, even then, are mouthbreathing retards if they contradict you).

I don't have any citations to disprove you. I don't think you have anything to offer to the contrary, either. Short of a sitewide poll, we'll probably never have any meaningful data to throw at the question. So, huzzah, it's undecidable. Excuse me for giving my fellow community members the benefit of the fucking doubt.

A message from beyond:

Dear MetaFilter,

I apologize for my hi-jinx in that thread, I don't know what came over
me. It seemed like such a cute idea at the time. Should have just
left it at the Treaty of Westphalia, but then I found the Treaty of
Brest-Litovsk, and then the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, and after that it
just kind of snowballed.

For the record, I was not drunk or stoned, I guess just temporarily
retarded. Apologies to all who were inconvenienced or angered by my
childish actions, especially Matt, whose server I did my little
poo-poo on.

See you next week,

Tom Topham / Meatbomb

Like jack_mo said, with images on the recklaw thread would never have gotten as entertaining as it did, and would just have disintegrated into milling about and ceiling cat.
