Little yellow check mark November 13, 2006 11:18 AM Subscribe
Why does this thread have a little yellow check mark by it on the main askme page, yet none of the answers are marked as best?
And yet there are those who insist on regarding "best answer" as a meaningful metric.

I do not think "answer" means what you think it means.

Perhaps in a zen sort of way the best answer does not exist. Therefore since no answer is marked as the best answer the best answer has already been found? There is no possible best answer. Until a comment is marked as best the one that isn't selected qualifies.

"Best Answer" should just be changed to "Answered" so we can be done with all of this.

Clearly, a best answer designation must trump a deletion.

I don't think anything should trump a deletion. Delete away oh ye overlords!

AskMe idiots continue to mark joke answers as best in their very own question threads, thus noising up the site for themselves and everyone else. Other idiots continue to favorite same in other people's threads. I'd ban every fucker who marked a joke as 'best answer', I would, I would.
That may not have happened this time, but it does.

No, there was no marking of jokey or snarky deleted answers.
I marked Extopalopaketl's very helpful and informative answer, and was treated to a bizarre Java error for my trouble. So, I tried again later, and now everything is as it should be.

If the appropriate response to a smart question is a smart answer, then what is the appropriate response to a dumb question?

The proper response is "I'll tell you in a minute"
