Meetup in Omaha? November 18, 2006 11:09 PM Subscribe
By the way, remember last February when I posted a link to a series of gay-themed records from the 60s? And we all agreed someone should take them and make a musical out of them? Well, I went ahead and did that, and it opens at Omaha's Blue Barn Theatre this Friday. Nebraskans and nearby Iowans, I'll be in town next week -- maybe meet up?
But when do we get the musical about how Astro Zombie came from the stars, bringing its' undead wiles, eyes to the stars to keep the dream alive alive alive?

Heh. Actually, I think my next musical is going to be about cavemen.

You're in luck, then, as I have begun a caveman post as a result of falling down an a couple of goofy intarweb rabbit holes having to do with cavemen. Did the astro zombies first visit the Neandertal?

You know, you just inspired me to email a local theater company to see if they would be interested in a musical adaptation of The Astro Zombies, and I have actually had some contact with writer/director Ted V. Mikels in the past.
You might have started something very dangerous, mwhybark.

Holy smokes, I really wish this had happened while we were still in Lawrence. Knock them dead, Astro Zombie. Then, watch them revivify and knock others dead, in an infinite zombie recursion that creates the largest audience for a 1960's gay-themed records revue in the entire history of musical theater.

What a great idea for a musical - congrats, Astro Zombie!

In case you're being serious, it's a different Rodney Dangerfield, Meatbomb; more than one performer used the name, which came from Ozzie and Harriet.

Well done AZ. I'd say 'break a leg', but with your awesome zombie powers, I don't think that would really even slow you down.

And if using this opportunity to pimp Astro Zombie's blog Vinyl Oddities (via Projects) is wrong, I don't wanna be a polka padre.

The Omaha Steaks bit had me on the floor.
Any chance of being able to buy a DVD of this? I'm afraid that Nebraska is out of my daytrip range.

Excellent!
I concur that mr. z. will have little difficulty with the new project - if i recall correctly, he should be able to detach each hand and assign different compositional and lyrical tasks to each, while he continues to work using voice-recognition technology far, far beyond our mortal ken.

I'm thinking you may need to touch base with Glenn Danzig at some point or other too. Hmmm.

I'm in Omaha and down for a meetup after the show too. Had been planning on going anyway--didn't realize it had a Mefi connex! Double-plus good.

Just to clarify for me, is this Saturday 11/25 or 12/2?
As for location, since one hasn't been tossed out, how about Upstream Brewery or Billy Frogg's. Both are in the Old Market, near the Blue Barn, and relatively beer-able. I'm a bit new to the area so someone with more experience might want to amend the suggestion. This being Omaha, there is a bit to be desired in terms of web presence, hence the lack of links to suggested locales.

Upstream is just up the street, and they make a damn fine root beer. Anyone up for drinks there at 6pm on Saturday?
