Mobile stylesheet? November 21, 2006 8:19 PM   Subscribe

Did this ever get done did? My symbian phone freaks out on the the current layout under opera, with a center column of nearly five or six characters in width bufferred by left-and-right margins approaching a quarter-inch-plus.

What I really want, of course, is a plain-text mobi.metafilter.com, but I'll deal.

I added a handheld sheet that sets the sidebar display to none, but I haven't done a full mirror just for mobile-friendly text versions yet.

I'm guessing your Opera browser is literally interpreting the 50px left and right page margins, which on your tiny phone takes up a huge amount of space.

I need to do a full handheld css sheet that kills all margins, sets display of none on all unimportant stuff and otherwise just keeps the page content as clean as possible.

Also, if anyone wants to take a crack at it, feel free and I'll implement in a matter of hours instead of days/weeks it would take me to complete it.

The layout is perfect for me in Opera Mini (Nokia N70, Series 60/Symbian/whatever it's called), but it's impossible to leave comments.

Just a thought - mathowie, would you be willing to give someone at Opera a temporary account to see if they can fix the commenting problem, since it seems to be with the browser not the site? In the past when I've filed bug reports they've been quite communicative and helpful, but if I fill in a report on this, they won't be able to reproduce it without an account here...

The Google Transcoder works sporadically for me on my pocketpc. sjvilla79 testifies to the greatness of Skweezer.

The layout is good on my Sony Ericsson K800i browser as well as Opera. I can't login the SE browser [after entering the user id and password it just goes back to the home page... I'm guessing it is the SE browser's fault... or mine for not figuring out how it does cookies]. It sucks I can't login since it means I get to see ads when I read comments from the RSS reader.

I can log in in Opera but like jack_mo, I can't post comments.

I read that as "Sybian phone".

Carry on.

mr_crash_davis: so did I. Very disappointed to learn it wasn't.

I have the n6600. I wonder if updating Opera might help.
