Jessamyn Spotting: “What are we gonna do, Mal?” pled Jessamyn, in a voice near hysterics.

Evidently the fine company here at MeFi isn't enough, and our fine librarian has joined up with Malachi and his anti-Pod World Order renegades.

Or is there someone else running around with the same name? Film at 11.

niles, a fair number of people have similar names.
posted by jonson at 11:06 PM on January 28, 2007

The name Jessamyn is a variant of Jasmine. While it is indeed rare in the U.S., it is by no means unique to mefi's Jessamyn West.
posted by RichardP at 11:18 PM on January 28, 2007

Unique or not, you can't deny the appeal of the image of MeFi's Jessamyn taking up with a rag-tag crew of Kalashnikov-toting anti-Apple guerrilla fighters.

Except for how she runs toward the Apple stormtroopers with hands raised in abject surrender at the end.

Heck, there are even two authors named Jessamyn West.

Jessamyn's middle name is Charity.

Jokes (all of which she has undoubtedly heard before) are left as an exercise for the reader.

Did they add something to the water that makes people lose all inhibition for making MetaTalk posts? It seems like this last week or two has had like a dozen MetaTalks per day, most of them being quite... uh... yeah.

Fine is a fine word. You could of used something else, though fine is fine, even in the same sentence. I love using 'could of' instead of 'could have', because it causes actual physical pain in some people when they read it. It's the power of words. Tell you what though niles had Mal been named Matt, I would've lol'd. At least a little.

The 'New Post' link at the top of the page is very prominent. Perhaps if the text was a sort of 2-tone grey/brown colour and was moved around the page randomly, things would improve.

Also, I don't think Celestial Seasonings puts enough goddamn chicory it any of its teas. Unless it's some single source like peppermint, you'll see chicory in it, and it's all I can taste when it's in one of their teas. I'm convinced I'll soon be able to buy Celestial Seasonings' Chicory-dickory-dock with 100% chickory essence infused chicory.

Hey killdevil (or anyone, really), can you tell me the provenance of the phrase "i ate a bee"? I've seen it here a few times over the years, and have even started saying it occasionally. Does anyone know where it comes from? Please help me, someone. I think I'm losing my mind. THE BEE CONTROLS ME.

hot soup girl - This is the earliest I could find (2003):
i ate a bee when i was younger. it flew right into my mouth as i was eating soup.
bees killed my grandfather. he disturbed a nest in the yard, the hive attacked him. he was quite old so when he tripped he couldn't get up. the entire swarm stung him.

Woot namechecked ME exactly 4 weeks ago.

Wendell turned the lights down low and took a moment to enjoy the scene. Two sparkling glasses of Chianti, the mellow tones of Luther Vandross, the loveliest supermodel he’d yet seen in his time at the embassy in Rio, and his trusty RCA Combo DVD Recorder & VCR.

Coincidence? Probably. Unfortunately, it's been almost 24 hours and they haven't sold out of the item...

Here's a permanent link to the Jessamyn Woot.

Thanks, tellurian. I figured it for a non sequitur, but couldn't help wondering if it were a secret cabal in-joke. Or an incredibly famous quote that only I didn't know. Or something.

No, I hadn't seen that. It was just a curious thing I stumbled upon in trying to figure out where the phrase originated. Yet, somehow I feel you've uncovered a clue... Perhaps Bugg should travel to Ontario in search of this B.?
posted by Bugg at 9:02 AM on January 30, 2007

And I too thought it was a reference to librarina's "I swallowed a bug". Alas, this is not the case.
