Deleted tag/thread issue? Count inaccurate. February 12, 2007 4:31 AM   Subscribe

The tag page for infanticide says that there's 1 post tagged with infanticide, but there doesn't appear to be any. Deleted tag/thread issue? Bonus points: relevant tags for Indian/Chinese infant gender disparity.

There seem to be two points to this metatalk post. I get what I think is the first one. What I think is the second one is a mystery to me.

It appears that the poster is asking for what tags people have been using to tag their posts on indian/chinese infant gender disparity.

OP is asking if there are tags similar or related to "infanticide" that might bring up posts relevant to the issue of gender inequality, adoption and abortion involving female infants.

A search of the "China" tag brings up posts also tagged with "India" and "culture" but neither appear to be about infant gender disparity (although this post is about powerful women in those countries).

It's often spoken of as 'sex ratio' in the literature, but that's not a tag here. I tried a few things and found a relevant previous post shows up under birth, though that of course is pretty broad. HTH

A term used in economic development papers is 'missing women' — the idea that fertility policies in strongly son-preferring culture such as India and China have led to female abortion and infanticide. Amartya Sen's work is important here.

There was also a recent article in Slate, here, by Levitt & Dubner which suggested a medical causation for a proportion of the 'missing women'.

Tags do not have a controlled vocabulary. If the topic had been covered before but the post was mistagged or not tagged (or tagged with a word you can't think of), you're better off using Google (+site:metafilter.com term1 term2 termetc).

Apologies for being unclear, I was looking for one of these kinds of posts, and just sort of stumbled on that tag bug.

Whatever it is, I hope it doesn't show up on MeFi Projects.
