AskMe in google search results. March 12, 2007 12:01 AM   Subscribe

So, is anybody else noticing that askme is showing up more often in google searches now that the title is in the URL? It seems like any kind of obscure search I do now has ask metafilter entry somewhere in the top 5.

I think that was sort of the idea, wasn't it?

Is it already? That's cool.

It's interesting to note that in [should i dump my girlfriend] none of the keywords are in the URL (except for 'I', but come on) and in [disposing of a body], the thread was from before titles existed so there are no keywords in its URL. So the SERP positioning of both of these seem to have nothing to do with the new URL scheme.

It's somehow reassuring that searching for "it hurts when I pee" doesn't return askme in the top 5 results. Not even on the first page of results. See, we're healthy people.

nadise: I think it's not on here because everyone knows the answer to that already: don't pee!

Rhomboid is right. Do a search on something a little less obscure that's been covered in AskMe.

Yahoo! Answers trounces us.

Sadly, the idealic childhood memory of finding porn in the woods will drift into the ether of history, thanks to the Internet.

I love the idea that serial killers everywhere will eventually become members of the Metafilter community because they typed "how do I dispose of a body" into google.

Yes, but I'm #3 for that search. Which is a way higher juice/person ratio. *capers, whistles cheerily*

Note that, in the search where delmoi has AskMe as the fourth result, the fifth result is a now-deleted post from Yahoo! Answers that says:

...She tied me to a chair, left, then came back with a bowl of her own feces. she started tormenting me with it... (The Google cache for that page is pretty funny.)

Just sayin'. This thread is interesting, though I have to wonder how some of these were found...
