IdleObservationFilter: In one hour this thread became the #1 Google hit for its subject. [more inside]
MetaFilter is there.
AskMe in google search results.
So, is anybody else noticing that askme is showing up more often in google searches now that the title is in the URL? It seems like any kind of obscure search I do now has ask metafilter entry somewhere in the top 5.
Fat Lesbian
Metafilter now "owns" the term "Fat Lesbian", since Google and Yahoo searches for "Fat Lesbian" now pull up my deleted post: Ich Bin Ein Fat Lesbian Oh, if only the rest of life were this simple.
Is Google bomb-proof now?
Is Google bomb-proof now? After seeing "verisign" posts all over the weblog world, I decided to check the progress on Google. The article calling for the bomb is #79 in a search for Verisign as of right now, and the link itself within the post doesn't show up in the first 100 results for me. Perhaps Google has gotten wise to everyone's shenanigans?
Why is my site not turning up in google?
speaking of google, i did a quick search of the name of my journal/blog/analfoam-site/whatever, called 'pigeonfarm', and metafilter came up a whole lot more than my site itself. anyone else got this going on?
I think this is a bad precedent.
NeuroProsthesis seems to be trying to use weblogs in order to optimize their google ranking. Their anchor tag is optimised for google. They have a weblog that talks about running a googlebombing inspired experiment. They have been inserting links in other people's weblog threads encouraging them to participate. They have apparently placed textads in daypop, metafilter etc. I distinctly remember running into an unrelated link to this site in one of the threads in Kottke.org. Jason seems to have removed it.
I think this is a bad precedent. Are there others? What do you think?

Blogs and pagerank
The Google Time Bomb- how weblogs are increasingly influencing the algorithms of Google's search engine. It looks like fun could be had with this. (From Microcontent news)
Pagerank makes bad people findable
If you search for Bernard Shifman on Google, the number one result is the “Bernard Shifman is a moron spammer” page that was all over the web yesterday. His “official” web page (in an online directory) is now seventh or eighth on the list. Joseph Crosby (GM of the Houston Doubletree) has a similar problem.
If you accept the premise that many people will check out Google before hiring/dating/whatever someone, then these guys are in trouble for the foreseeable future. (more inside….)

Has anybody kept track of Metafilter's Google PageRank?
Has anybody kept track of Metafilter's Google PageRank? (the little green bar on the Google IE toolbar...dunno how else to view it) Creeping upward, I suspect, but I'm curious. As you all know, as it increases Metafilter threads become better candidates to be included in search results. I'm seeing more and more of them.
MeFi Pagerank rocks Scooby Doo Porn
This is incredible. While going through yesterday's stats (it was a slow sunday), I found a couple referrers from google, for "scooby doo porn" searches. So I tried it myself, and MetaFilter comes up third, for a comment made as a joke, making fun of search engines.
