Best no more. May 18, 2007 11:16 AM   Subscribe

Now that we have this new interface for viewing our comments, I can no longer easily scroll through my ask.metafilter answers and see if any new ones have been marked as best. The word "best" appears, in small gray text, but the cool check mark that made me feel special is gone. :(

Also, there are huge multi-line gaps in some of my comments, where two carriage returns should have created a single empty line.

Like so.

Huh. That's weird with the dbl-breaks in only the AskMe comment display.

The current checkmark graphic has a green background specially suited for the AskMe site. We'll have MeFi Creative whip up a new checkmark for the blue. Until then, [best] marks the best.

And the Ask gaps should be closed now.

A checkmark entity would work for most, but a checkmark graphic will work for all!

You wouldn't have to do that if you'd just make coloured backgrounds :)

Although I know that AskMe is intended to reinforce positive participation, I would love to see an option for mark as worst answer for those times when people are in such a rush to contribute that they don’t fully comprehend the question and get it completely wrong.

This would almost instantly be abused to mean something beyond your original intent.

A "Get off the computer and go outside" option would be good, but too widely used.

A "Get laid" would be nice, but sadly, it's not that easy.

"Get drunk" IS that easy, though

you know, i think it's a sign of how far the site has come that we fill MeTa up with talk about checkmarks and stars instead of talk about cutting off one or more of our hands.

Is there any reason that the background doesn't switch colors to match the comments you are viewing?

The current setup is kind of nice, I've just discovered, because you can search the page for the text "best" to quickly see how amazing you are. I don't know how to make firefox search a page for a checkmark graphic.

The checkmark was easier to see, but "best" is much more ego-stroking. Why not a yellow "best" so I croutonsupafreak can feel special again?

It's not?

Flagging a comment as Get laid could send a link by email.

All my backgrounds are white, so that part doesn't really matter to me. I just miss the check mark.

I added a transparent png checkmark and "marked best answer" where appropriate. I also moved it to the outside so it's easier to spot.

Actually, dersins suffers from a rare medical disorder known as Acute Deadsexiness, is the thing.
