Has anybody kept track of Metafilter's Google PageRank? November 28, 2001 6:24 PM Subscribe
Has anybody kept track of Metafilter's Google PageRank? (the little green bar on the Google IE toolbar...dunno how else to view it) Creeping upward, I suspect, but I'm curious. As you all know, as it increases Metafilter threads become better candidates to be included in search results. I'm seeing more and more of them.
so are you saying that I will be replaced eventually? guess I should have studied for the turing test...

If you do a search for "kindall," my MeFi user profile is the #1 result. Boggles the mind.

Hmm, mine's 8th. Which is pretty good for a fairly common name-unit.

You want to know how often google indexes a part of MetaFilter?
No...if I understand PageRank right, it's a measurement of how often other pages link to MetaFilter, thus MetaFilter's "credibility" on the web.
MetaFilter's PageRank is pretty high, so if a page on MetaFilter links to page x, it'll carry more weight than some random's page linking to x, and be more likely to show up in Google's search results.

Right on.

Jeez. I typed in my username to Google and my profile page was the 8th highest result. That's amazingly high.

MeFi comes up 17th for "Neale".
Keep in mind MeFi has to beat out wwgb, Zora Neale Hurston, and a shark if it wants the #1 spot.
And, of course, the aptly named conversations with God.

I already knew there can be but one WonderChicken (with a head, at least).
This was an unexpected thing, though. Looks like quonsar mirrored 11629! That's cool.

Don't worry, Miguel. I, for one, don't think you do, anymore.

From the first three weeks of November's stats, Google's bot is more popular than all Netscape browsers combined and robots requested more pages than all Apple Macintosh visitors combined.
