Where has the LP gone? June 20, 2007 6:38 AM   Subscribe

I am wondering what happened to Live Preview on the MeFi posting page. I miss that feature and it skips an extra click. But one of Admins probably has an answer involving a lot of Tech Mumbo Jumbo, or someone will kindly (hopefully) direct me to the previous MeTa thread regarding this.

If you're asking why Live Preview isn't active anymore on the actual compose a post page, I'm pretty sure the answer is "because it never was".

Clicking the Preview button is always a good idea.

I'm becoming fonder of the verb "to favorite." Personal quirk or MeFi addiction? Who can say?

loquacious, is there a term for identical simultaneous replies other than jinx?

Simultaneous replies nine minutes apart? Is there a term for "transparent fishing for favorites"?
posted by Wolfdog at 7:29 AM on June 20, 2007 [1 favorite]

You offend me sire! (I didn't notice the time difference)

However, there have been a number of occasions wherein two replies that say basically the same thing were posted within a few seconds of one another.

live preview is one of my favorite metafilter things: it's not really a preview, since its confined to a predetermined width wraps text and it treats many types of input differently from the end result, and its purpose and true function is to solve a problem unrelated to editing/posting. and, it's rabidly loved by the community. this inherent bizarreness makes it a truly representative icon of metafilter's culture.

I like the term "rabidly loved" since rabies is also called hydrophobia. It's a great phrase for containing just that bit of underlying irrational ambivalence.

What is its purpose and true function?

ALongDecember - We don't get to see the US version of The Office here in the UK, because it's universally assumed that it's inferior (and no channel has optioned it, to my knowledge), so thanks for that link. It is, if anything, apparently just as hilariously awkward and hysterical as the British one.

Truly, a representative icon.

What is its purpose and true function?

to alleviate the server load required to dynamically generate the preview page.

chuckdarwin: Have you checked ITV2? They apparently call it "The Office: An American Workplace." They list it on Sundays, but it may have run it's course.Sorry, I'm American so I have no idea if that channel is popular.

Oh, and Live Preview rules.
