Is there a better way to follow activity in favorited posts?

Does anyone have a good method for following new comments in favorite posts?

I often favorite posts in AskMe because I'm interested in reading new comments and/or seeing if the OP has updated on the outcome of the original dilemma. Once the post has dropped off the front page there doesn't seem to be an efficient way to see if there are any new comments, and I'm quite reluctant to make throwaway comments in threads just so they'll be included in my Recent Activity page.

I see that this pony has been requested at least once, but in the meantime I'm wondering if I've overlooked an easy way to do this. I guess I'm thinking something along the lines of an RSS feed for comments on individual posts?

I know this is sort of crazy, but you can always comment in them. That's what I do. I think other people use cocomment. I htink mathowie keeps considering feeds for individual threads but I'm not sure where he's at in that thinking vs. doing process.

jessamyn: lalex did say "I'm quite reluctant to make throwaway comments in threads " and I tend to agree.

Yeah, I am averse to doing that. I can see how it'd work for certain topics, but when someone asks a question relating to specific areas of expertise that I have no training in (medicine, law, etc.) I am reluctant to add noise to the thread and distract from actual informed answers.

I checked out cocomment, but it seems to also only track threads in which you've made a comment. If anyone who uses it knows differently, let me know - it would make cocomment exactly the solution I'm looking for.

co.mments.com has a bookmarklet that will track new comments in Mefi.

Hook up to your personal RSS and let the comments come to you via RSS reader.

Voila!

Previously. I still hold out hope for this. It would be extremely useful.

Lots of throwaway comments decreases the usefulness of the site. Although it might explain the rationale behind some comments.

This would be a good feature.

Couldn't you just use the bookmarks feature of your web browser?

sorry for misreading and confusing cocomments.com with co.mments.com, waking up seems to come later and later every day no matter what time I get out of bed.

I'd love a combined feature that basically allows for "add this to my RSS feed when the poster marks the issue 'resolved'" which would, of course, necessitate a resolved feature as well which I think has been a long time coming and would be slightly different from best answer.

Yay! If there was a best answer feature in MetaTalk, I'd be marking unixrat and jessamyn's suggestion of co.mments.com. That's exactly the type of solution I was looking for; just hooked it up and it works like a dream.

Thanks!

Yeah, I need to do a RSS feed. Lemme see if I can crank something out today.

Checking out cocomments now. Thanks for the tip!

Hey, seems to be working! Let this be the last throwaway comment from me, ever (not to be confused with all my other garbage comments).

dang, i just noticed that there is cocomment.com, and then there is co.comments.com, as Jessamyn pointed out. Crap...the indecision! Anybody have any comments (ha, dead horse!) on either of these?

GAH! I messed that up. The second comment in my third comment should read co.mments.com, not co.comments.com

I'm about to die of recursion. These are all throwaway, please disregard me.

Oooooh, I am excited for this. My next pony request will be for a virtual MeFi cattle prod that encourages updates from people who posted about medical mysteries, infuriating roomate conflicts, and interesting legal disputes.

It would be totally sweet if MetaFilter integrated with coComment. I have no idea if it's possible, though.

So, I'm the only enthusiastic user of commentful.

If you're checking out the above sites, go ahead and give this one a try too. I found it to work on the broadest range of forums and blogs out of all of them. It does require installing a Firefox extension. The extension will tell you when a new comment has been added, and there is an RSS feed as well.

That look cool. One of these days I need to figure out why Firefox is so much slower than Safari on my computer.
