It's happened again.

It's been several years. I didn't think we'd much want the idiocy that inevitably goes on in abortion rights threads, and it seems like we get thread updates in MeTa, so here it be.

An "update" to a crap single link NewsFilter from over two years ago? Get a pair and post this shit to the Blue.

Let this serve as a remind to everyone. If you have to justify your post by saying "but someone was gonna post it, so it might as well have been me" then you should definitely not post it.
posted by puke & cry at 7:45 PM on June 29, 2007

Sorry, that was needlessly harsh. Posting this here to avoid "idiocy" on MeFi seems very disingenuous to me, as though you know this doesn't have legs to stand as an FPP proper, but still want to discuss it.

Wait until the third instance of anything before going bonkers about it is usually my motto.

You know, if one person, just one person does it they may think he's really sick and they won't take him. And if two people, two people do it, in harmony, they may think they're both faggots and they won't take either of them.

I think is kind of stretching the utility of Metatalk-side post updates past the reasonable limit, if that was you primary intent, fff. If you want to talk about what we should do about RAWR ABORTION RAWR posts instead, go for it; my current answer would be "we'll delete them if they're shit posts, or weather the storm if they're done well".

There'll be the breaking of the ancient
western code
Your private life will suddenly explode
There'll be phantoms
There'll be fires on the road
and a white man dancing
You'll see a woman
hanging upside down
her features covered by her fallen gown
and all the lousy little poets
coming round
tryin' to sound like Charlie Manson
and the white man dancin'.

Give me back the Berlin wall
Give me Stalin and St Paul
Give me Christ
or give me Hiroshima
Destroy another fetus now
We don't like children anyhow
I've seen the future, baby:
it is murder.

Perhaps this has been asked, but why is there no chatfilter.metafilter.com?

I would imagine the Google revenue alone would be enormous...?

Metachat.org was created in part for that very purpose (to siphon off some of the aimless chat here), though it has grown to be more than just an offshoot of MeFi, into a community in its own right.

Well, define "creation"!!! Is it when the first letter is typed into the comment box, or when they are all typed? Or is it when you click "post comment"? Or is it when the comment shows up in the thread?

Until you can answer that question, LEAVE ME ALONE and keep your nose out of what I do with MY OWN COMMENT!!!!!!!!

I have a feeling in my gut that that's going to be the Right, Fine, Have Your Fun iPhone post. It's got some actual hardware-porn content, at least. And was posted well into nighttime PST, clever bastards.

If they want *my* vas deferens, they'll have to pry it from my hot, sweaty hands.

Every time I visit Amazon it suggests one. And you might be surprised to see what others who got one also purchased.

This is not about abortion as much as it is parental rights and obligation to be aware of any medical procedures to be done on a minor child.

Even if I were proabortion-which I am not-a parent needs to know.

And if you think otherwise, I hope you are lobbying your local lawmakers to make it possible for thirteen year olds to get their ears pierced without their parent's permission.
posted by konolia at 9:17 AM on June 30, 2007

Seriously, if you're getting pregnant at 13, maybe your parents have done such a shitty job raising you, that there should be a law that they've lost any right to know about decisions you make henceforth.
posted by Blazecock Pileon at 9:56 AM on June 30, 2007

I have kids, and I still agree with Blazecock Pileon.

You didn't talk to your daughter about sex.
You didn't talk to her about birth control.
You didn't know she was having sex.
But you DO want to know when she wants an abortion?!

When did this become the government's problem?

Try talking to your daughter!

(And if you did talk to her, and she used birth control, and it was an accident, she'll talk to you about that, so you still won't need the government to make her tell you.)

No harm, no foul. Abortions hugs for everybody!
posted by cortex (staff) at 7:04 PM on June 30, 2007

You know, they are two different cases. In Colorado, you just need to get parental notification, not consent. The girl can still get an abortion, she just has to tell her mother first. You don't need parental consent in Florida either, but the judge in that case ruled initially that the girl couldn't have an abortion. Here's a chart for future reference.
