US abortion access actions and resources: how we can help

In case the front page US abortion thread is overwhelming either you or your electronic devices, here's a much shorter, focused thread for resources, suggestions of actions you can take, ways to help, ways to get help. This brief What You Can Do guide was the standout link I saw in the main thread. It lists places to donate and other ways to help. [more inside]

Chatfilter: Abortion Rights are Under Attack! What do we do? Fight Back!

This post is being prompted by this thread: Abortion rights under imminent threat?. Early on in the thread, some Mefites asked about concrete actions that can be done, to protest this absolutey disasterous decision. It got lost, though, in the discussion over politics and procedures - which is completely valid! It's a great discussion! So, I thought I'd open this space both for venting, and also on discussing the actual logistics of protesting. There are probably a lot of people who are completely new to protesting, and this could be a great space to discuss it, and educate each other. Please, obviously, avoid discussing illegal stuff here! Looking for an image linked in a comment on the blue

Several years ago someone posted a link on the blue of a table that took prolife arguments and explained how to was or wasn't consistent with simply punishing women for daring to have sex. It covered abortion, birth control, and the hpv vaccine. [more inside]

Group preserving access to reproductive healthcare, come what may?

Very quickly: somewhere back in the megathreads, I remember a bunch of y'all mentioning a group mobilizing to preserve women's access to reproductive healthcare services, including abortion, no matter what happens with the law of the land. [more inside]

My question about my abortion was deleted as "chatfilter"

This is a sockpuppet account. I've been a contributing member of this community for several years under another account. One of the mods here deleted my question ABOUT THE ABORTION I AM PLANNING TO HAVE IN TWO DAYS. Because he thought it was "chatfilter". [more inside]

chatfilter?

Are questions that ask for advice and perspectives from those who have gone through similar experiences now considered chatfilter? I think this question should have stayed up.

What would have been a permissible way to raise this topic?

I attempted a FPP with this post that was pretty swiftly deleted because something had purportedly been "debunked". What would have been a permissible way to make a FPP regarding the current trial of Dr. Kent Gosnell? [more inside]

deletions

[comments removed - that's **IT** This thread is not a referendum of one crabby person's opinions about abortion. Go to MetaTalk, don't say "screw you" to people. Act like someone who wants to be here. Thank you Well, you said take it to MetaTalk. So I have. I don't think my opinions on abortion should be considered invalid, simply because I am male. I don't think I should get the ole delete hammer, because I am considered "crabby." I was accused of calling women sluts, which I certainly did not do. One person inferred it, a couple others jumped on the proverbial bandwagon, and I got saddled with something I didn't do. Yes, I said "Screw you." I think that IS acting like I want to be here, know how the joint works, and don't much feel like getting piled on for something I didn't do in the first place. I'm sure there a lot of reasons to not like me, but if you are going to pick one and broadcast it, at least make sure it is true.

George Tiller Died and Let's Talk About It

About the George Tiller murdered thread: game warden to the events rhino wrote this quote, which is attributed to Mark Thomas: "The problem with anti-abortion extremists is that their very existence disproves their point." Huh? [more inside]

NYT abortion article causes MeFi uproar, is largely retracted

This New York Times article generated voluminous ranting in the blue in this thread. Critical portions of the article have been revealed as being rather, uh, Rathergate-ish and have been retracted by the Times.

OP starts judgements early

I'm taking myself to metatalk because I am honestly not sure what the best thing to do would be.

Here was a heartbreaking post from a grieving person who specifically asked people not to take their abortion debates into the thread. The Confessor posted what I thought was a completely uncalled for judgement on those who have abortions ("for convenience"-- a common anti-abortion term). I found it personally offensive and noted so in-thread, stating I didn't want to hijack (or debate) but that I found the judgement to be uncalled for. Now I am not sure if that was the right thing to do. Should I have called out here to begin with? Should I have ignored it?

And I want to apologize to anonymous for making a "thing" in his thread.

Would it be okay to post a link to my book in a post?

I wanted to post about the current threat to abortion rights along with some links to information about how to get or do abortions. One of the links I wanted to include was to a book that I worked on. Is it inapropriate to put this post on the main page? (Since I wasn't sure, I posted it on projects.) Advice?

Dumb Pro-Choice Thread Callout

Speaking as a pro-choice person, this thread has to be the dumbest collection of arguments in favor of abortion rights that I've read anywhere in a long time, currently topped off with an attempt to draw an analogy between aborting fetuses and shredding paper. Am I missing a giant troll tag here, or is MeFi really getting as stupid as it appears?
