Time's up. Where are the pictures? July 15, 2007 1:36 PM   Subscribe

It is afternoon in Portland, Oregon. Where are the pictures from last night's big 8th anniversary meetup? Lynsey and da shiv and maybe others had cameras there. Skip the photoshopping and just post the pictures, please.

Thanks for the link dersins. Thanks for the shoutout Lynsey.

So many lovely ppl, so many handsome and beautiful faces, so little memory. I've posted everyone's names that I met or remember, feel free to tag them with names that I missed.

Pips loved her b-day shoutout. Thanks, pieisexactlythree.

What is the average age at the meetups? It looks a bit 30ish to me.

Totally varies depending on the venue. This place was 21+ so it skewed older than it might have otherwise, but usually I find that the meetups are 20-40-somethings.

A 20 year old was 12 when Metafilter started.

Thanks, Lynsey! Wish I coulda been there... For one thing, I would have raised the average age considerably all by my grandfatherly self.

I'm still in the process of rotating them, etc., but here are my photos, with no user names or anything attached yet. Please, add them!

I don't know what I would have made of Metafilter as a preteen. I bet I wouldn't still be reading now, though.

Add the mefi8 tag to find them all.

Those T-shirts are lookin' pretty snazzy, any chance there might be some leftovers available to those of us not fortunate enough to have attended the soon-to-be-legendary Portland Meetup?
posted by sophist at 4:36 PM on July 15, 2007

Y'all chose the place because of the colour scheme, right?
posted by hangashore at 5:30 PM on July 15, 2007

sophist, the shirts are for sale over here.

For some reason, my photos don't show up with the other mefi8 photos. And on my photo page, I get the words croutonsupafreak is the only person who has used "mefi8" as a tag.

Pictures of me so far: zero.

But I had a good time.

Crouton - is your flickr account new? I think they do something to verify new acccounts before making the photos searchable by the public.

I had a great time too, although it might not look like it.

I enjoyed meeting a mysterious musician, whose handle I recall as notmyopicguy, although I can't seem to find a user by that name. We were both hungry, and Ground Kontrol doesn't serve food, so we slipped away for tacos de lengua at a little Mexican place.

On the way back, we detoured through Mary's Club, a family-owned Portland institution, which I would describe as a clean, well-lighted place for titty. The place was packed, and I got a wink from the dancer. :-)

And diastematic and I plan to collaborate on an FPP on a topic of mutual interest.

As I'm in the middle of moving, it'll take a few days before I can post mine.

I'm absolutely distraught that I couldn't go to this. I'm definitely going to whatever tenth anniversary party there is no matter what it takes in terms of time/money/distance/my being someone's love slave for a month to get a place to stay.

I finally got back to Seattle; here are some of the better ones I took last night.

That does it -- I'm buying a house in Portland.

Thank you Matt, Jess, Cortex and PB and the Ground Kontrol folks, who were just great. I had such a wonderful time. I still have more pics to put up - I had a family meetup today so will post more as soon as I can.

I got drunk at the party I was at on Saturday, and tried to explain to a large group of people that there was another party going on across the country that very night, and that the focus of that party was the eighth anniversary of an excellent community weblog, and that I was sure that it was awesome and I wished I was there.

I'm not sure I have any friends anymore.

It was totally awesome. I took some pics, should have time to post some this evening (not a lot of keepers, sadly).

Ok I'll admit: the diminutive Amsterdam meetup was fine but I wish I could have been there in Portland. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Thanks again to everyone for coming. I had a great time, great beer, great donuts, and I didn't have to walk home holding 50 shirts.

We just might have to make this an annual event every July.

That was the best thing the internet has ever done for me, thank you metafilter. I promise to be social before I get raging drunk next time. I know at some point I was slurring something about a polite but firm "you-can't-do-that-on-mefi" email jessamyn sent me one time, because I was drunk and all "wooooo you emailed me once!!!"

Who did I end up taking back to my +1's apartment for the inpromptu mini after party?

Forgive the tardiness of my comment:

Thank you mathowie, jessamyn, cortex, pb, and all you beautiful people at Ground Kontrol who made it a great time; I was mightily impressed with how many PacNW MeFites there are. Also, Lynsey enjoyed herself immensely and was stoked to put faces to all the names she's known here for so long.

Power to the +1's!

I'm finding it hard to believe that no one else took pictures. Come on people!! I'd estimate the final headcount to be about 100-120 all told, definitely not all at once though.

matildaben, you got some great ones. this one is especially excellent.
