Slate Mention December 4, 2001 1:34 PM   Subscribe

MetaFilter is cited for its good discussion thread on IT at Slate. Just thought you'd want to know. I wonder how many standard media reporters look at MetaFilter for ideas or witty comments?

Slate appears to be having a now-it-works-now-it-doesn't day.

Many. There used to be one for Wired who was fairly regular. Wonder what happened to him...

I've read the thread. Basically it's over 200 comments of some people wanting an IT for Christmas, and other people who think it's a stupid idea. I happen to agree with the latter. The fact Slate mentioned MeFi is great, but there's more and better parts to this place than that one thread.

I really wish some news organization would cover MeFi with a bit more meat. They have of course, but MeFi's usually just mentioned offhand with a handful of other remotely similar sites. I'd like to see some reporter really investigate the place, and build some good copy about its goals, successes, failures, personalities, concepts, history, poignant moments -- just give it a good sendup for once.

I wrote to Yahoo Internet Life recently begging them to do just that. Probably was stupid and pointless to do, but at that moment I felt it was warranted.

"I wrote to Yahoo Internet Life..." Did you include the $299 "consideration" fee? ;-P
