A moment of the silence for the IMG tag August 29, 2007 1:15 PM   Subscribe

How can I find those hilarious closed/deleted Metafilter threads from the days of the IMG tag? I remember the page taking a few minutes to load because they were full of ridiculous animated GIFs. I'd like to spam my friends with some of those images.

I don't believe they're deleted, new ones just aren't allowed.

The Caps Lock Day thread was good.

(I even posted one there, and I was one of the people who really hated IMG tags. :) )

Though 1142 is so old that most stuff is broken.

Alternately, you could just click on any random Fark article.

You could go to overchan and go through all the /gif/ sections listed. A lot them are porn gifs or other NSFW stuff but there are good ones too.

When exactly did the IMG tag get banned? Until I saw this thread I was under the impression it had been like, years and years.

Side question - any idea why facetious seems to have every single comment in the mushroom thread favorited?

When exactly did the IMG tag get banned?

If you read the caps lock day thread it happened while that was still going on which is why you see a bunch of blank posts and no images after a certain point.

That was caused by a combination of software malfunction and the fact that at that time, favorites were still wrongly added via GET instead of POST, since fixed.

Thx. Found it hard to believe one would fav over 1k comments.

I was just a lurker back in the IMG tag days, but I remember reading the major threads that turned into image fests (and enjoying them). But, it's probably a good idea that the IMG tag was banned, because it made the threads

I want a thread with a slow load
I want a lover with an easy touch
I want a thread that will spend some time
Not come and go in a heated rush
I want a thread that will row the boat
When it comes to meff, I want a slow load

Longboaters, are you still out there in the lifeboats, flailing around on the uncharted seas of the internets? Where is nice donkey? Where is graham whatshisname? Are ye still alive, lads and lasses?

So, this year's INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY (Oct. 22) will also mark the first anniversary of the image tag being turned off on MetaFilter.

Hmm.

Hmm indeed. Cortex, perhaps your people could do lunch with Matt's people sometime before 10//22?

Lynsey: donkey and graham are on the current roster of Team USA Foosball.

Lynsey the longboat legend began in the incredibly long thread 9622 which had 2686 comments between June 6, 2005 and July 6, 2005 - automatic closing day. Despite Languagehat's atque et vale comment, the some of the crew met in Boston harbor and were rescued by grapefruitmoon's longboat, and set off on a world tour. We dropped in on goodnewsfortheinsane in Holland, visited Australia, and camped on gramschmidt's patio.
The tour ended on July 8, 2006 when the longboat itself was given a Viking funeral in what might be called postscripts to MetaTalk thread 12049. The crew survives as and hosted from Uranus observed, although grapefruitmoon has been absent this year.

I have a special place in my heart for Sketchzillacom. I think it might be the only FPP with an image in it. It's certainly the only one with a flashing dot. But mathowie said it was cool, so.

If we could get images turned on for ONE thread only... this year's CAPS LOCK DAY EXTRAVAGANZA!! -- I would be eternally grateful. Because what is the hallowed CAPS LOCK DAY without a gazillion silly images? Blasphemy, that's what.
