What’s the best question you’ve heard on AskMe?

I'm talking about something which really resonated with you. (Just finished reading this one awhile back, and felt I had to answer.)

carsonb: Yeah, that as just like when someone says "No offense, but [insert something really offensive]." Like saying it's not chatfilter will make it so.

Oh, I just picked the one at the top. The top askme is always my favorite, and usually the most wonderful thing I've ever seen. The irony was just icing on the cake.

I can't believe caddis made the exact same comment in that thread as well.

*cough* not to bring up an old topic but the unicode quotes in this post causes the feed to be invalid.
line 17, column 15: XML parsing error: :17:15: not well-formed (invalid token)
Column 15 is the ’ in "What’s". And just like last time, it's because in the feed U+2019 is being truncated to just 0x19, which is totally broken.

Oh, she's a classy dame that one, but the lure of Metatalk is too strong. I gotsta gotsta help myself.
posted by hadjiboy at 8:05 AM on September 23, 2007

It's my understanding that mentioning Metafilter related items at Metachat is now strictly forbidden.

I think it's usually just mefi drama/politics that's discouraged. And besides, hadjiboy has been a member over there for a while. (On the other hand, I think it might have been a thread like that that lead to hadjiboy first being pointed to MeCha, so maybe mediareport was making a sublime little joke. I dunno.)

So, in summary: that askme is so deleted.

Actually, I don’t know how I found my way to Metachat, if it was linked here, or on the blue, or the green, but I do remember the fantastic post that brought me to MeFi, and it was on the grey. It went something like… “What was the one experience in your childhood, that changed your life,” or something along those lines. Wait, I think it may have been on the green. Arrrrrgh, this is so frustrating, but that post really showed me the humanity on the net, how people could connect with each other, and connect so beautifully (you all had some very personal stories to tell that day), and I’ve been addicted to this place ever since.

Since I have the memory of a gnat when it comes to these things, I had to go to my activities page to at least find questions I liked enough to answer. Here are ask.me posts I particularly enjoyed:

Good words for private parts?

Poetry about Secrets, Hidden Places?

Term for a hypothetic opposite-gendered self?

I've invented a complete imaginary world. Am I insane?

penguin pie: I wanted ideas for stuff to go away and read about.

I'll answer your question better than any of those nutters over in the green could. You say you "browse the blue", well, the blue is the daily collective answer to your question. "Here's all the stuff that's the coolest! It's really wow, just click this link:" Click over to the blue and spend some quality time with the Random link. Don't just browse, dig. Use the (obscenely and delightfully dense) Archive. Is the front page slow Today? Put "Holy shit!" and "Awesome!" or "Best ever" into the search box. Are there particular participants over on AskMe that you recognize? Admire? What's their favorite stuff on the site? Who do they link to? What are their favorites? What about the ones who see it all? The mob rules too. There's a zillion ways to use this site to find cool shit to read about, please don't abuse AskMe with chatfilter.

Also, I <3>I've invented a complete imaginary world. Am I insane?" thread, too.

As someone whos had, at times, three completely separate, independent universes running in his head simultaneously, it's good to know that I'm not completely batshit crazy.

Not about that, anyway.

This one got me 20 favorites.

This one allowed me to honor one of my college professors.

This one allowed me to relive some of my college studies.

This one made me a decent chunk of change, and was fun to do.

This one made me smile.

This one inspired me to offer up with a very cool and very useful technique that I came up with independently (though I suspect others thought of it before me).

These two allowed me to offer up a very banal but very useful technique.

And this one let people laugh at me, let me learn, and was a great favor to me by hangashore.

What about the Q where someone wanted to know if a laptop power chord was safe to have around a baby who puts things in their mouth, and someone tested it out?

It wasn't even on AskMe, but the MetaChat thread that asked posters to come up with (bogus) questions sure to generate controversy was so good that it not only had its own MetaTalk callout, it also inspired pantyraids on Yahoo! Answers.
