Why'd we go and kill this. Just because of this? (more inside)

Ok, so it was posted in a good but obviously nebulous fpp. I think the clip warranted individual discussion. The earlier post just resulted in a fight over whether or not Zappa was worthwhile. Given what passes here, including a good number of quasi-double posts which lead to good discussions, i think that this was a viable post cut down too quick.

I do tend to come from the (possibly misguided) position that the discussions on metafilter are just as important as the fpp's. I always give a little "arrrgghhh" when good discussions get cut short do to problems with the post. But this time it seems silly. I spent a good 2 or 3 hours going through poolio's post and i didn't get to this, and it certainly wasn't discussed at any length. It's interesting and relevant to the state of our current culture. and it's flippin friday nite. those of us without dates should perhaps get to have a little fun?

For God's sake, es_de_bah. You're a 23 year old student. Go drink.

Discussions are great, but really, a post has to have a good original link or the site just becomes a fluffy bulletin board with open threads.

It would be really cool if you could find a link of Howard Zinn singing Frank Zappa songs, rather than vice versa.

In principle, yes. In practice, one begins to wonder, one does.

It was axegrind filter. Even if it wasn't a double it should have been deleted.

well obviously, nanojath, i'm sitting at home and drinking. but i had to work tonite, so my plans for going out were curtailed. i promise i won't bug you guys for rock-cult-god inspired political debates tomorrow night.

I think the deleted post would've been okay if there had been some (original) supporting links discussing the Crossfire appearance, or whatnot.

It was prophetic for ol' Frank to mention encroaching fascist theocracy in a 1986 interview: I was struck by that the first time I saw that clip, which was, I think, about a year ago. Those assholes interviewing him pretty much tried to laugh him off the stage for that one.

I'd agree though, that this interview is probably not exactly FPP-worthy, on its own, even if I would often rather hear Frank Zappa talk than listen to his music.

I have been denied, once again, my opportunity to piss upon the Zappa haters. Nazis!
