that word needs to be hyphenated: micro-ads. I read it as "roads" with "mic" in front of it. my-crodes.

heh, heh. sorry about that thread hijacking...er...misdirecting. Okay, let's try to get this back to the original topic:

I never click banner ads, but I HAVE found myself clicking through the text ads here. I was suprised to see an ad for SXSW here, though.

You could hardly say Google was first, however. Macintouch.com at least has been using text ads for years, though they don't have that do-it-yourself interface. Is that a requirement for a true "micro-ad"?

I think the essence of a micro ad is a quick purchase in small dollar increments, not necessarily the ad format.

and also, perhaps...quick purchase in small dollar increments by people/sites/places/deities that wouldn't normally advertise in that way. So it also opens up promotion for the little guy i always hear people talking about.
