Leopard cramps my MeFi commenting style.
Anything powered by WebKit (in my case, NetNewsWire's built-in browsing, but it happens to Safari as well) is useless for commenting on MeFi, as I cannot create spaces in the comment box. Hitting the spacebar doesn't do anything. This happens in preview as well as the comment box on the thread page. It's not happening in the text entry boxes on the new MeTa post page!
PS: This isn't a purely-Metafilter issue, as I've run into it on other sites that have comment boxes like MeFi's (which is to say, text entry field with a javascript-powered live preview above it).

Sparkletone, I bet you have some weird InputManager installed that you're now learning isn't compatible with Safari 3.0/WebKit whatever-version-is-part-of-Leopard.

Hmm. I must've been hallucinating. The behavior only manifests in NetNewsWire. Safari is fine.
I don't think it's related to the only InputManager I use, as it happens regardless of whether I've got it installed. I could've sworn NNW was Leopard ready, but I guess not.
I'll take it up with the NNW dev.
Nothing to see here anymore! Thanks.

At least it wasn't a cheetah pooping in it.

This happened to me in NetNewsWire running Tiger, so it's not a Leopard thing. It suddenly appeared out of nowhere and unfortunately I don't remember what, if anything, I changed or if it ever went away.

Creepy. I'd never, ever encountered this behavior before, which is why I assumed it was related to the upgrade of WebKit that Leopard represents.

Actually, come to think about it the error might have happened after I installed the Safari 3 beta. I'm not sure about this but it is certainly possible.

I'm typing this in NetNewsWire running Leopard, but I remember seeing this problem before in Tiger. I'm not sure what fixed it, but if you're running the NNW 3 beta, you should make sure it's the most recent version, and do that by actually checking the website. Some of the early betas had a non-functional "Check for Updates..." menu item.

Nope. Full on, final version 3.0. (Latest version according to NNW's page over at NewsGator's website).
And I never had this happen on Tiger, and a good 90% (or more) of my MeFi'ing is done in NNW tabs.

It's NetNewsWire. It binds space to "next unread item". Did it for me both in Tiger and Leopard.
Is there perhaps an option to turn off space=next unread that's been unset during the upgrade?

A related NewsGator forum post suggests an upgrade to a newer beta version of NNW will fix the problem.

Yeah. The issue's mentioned down in the changelog:
- You can now enter keyboard characters 0/9/space into a Java applet — NetNewsWire won’t interpret the keystrokes as commands.
Delightful! I think I'll pass though. 3.0.1 can't be that far off.

From that swimming tiger link: “Most cats do not like getting wet - as anyone who has tried to bathe a moggie will know.” Shit like this is really annoying. House cats generally don't like getting wet. Lots and lots of other varieties of felines don't mind getting wet, some swim.
