iCal support for Meetups November 12, 2007 2:09 PM   Subscribe

I added some quick hacky iCal support to the upcoming meetups sidebar here on MetaTalk. Hit the "iCal" link to get a properly formatted calendar file you can subscribe to and see all the upcoming meetups in your calendar of choice. Here's what it looks like in iCal.

That looks pretty cool.

Oh, you can also add it to Google Calendar by just copy/pasting the URL (be sure to change the description of it to "MeFi Meetups" instead of the default MetaTalk title)

Nifty. For those that are unaware (like me), and didn't know that you can do this in Google's calender, all you have to do is click on 'Add' on the left hand side, and go down to 'Add by URL', then just paste this link. Voilà, moments later, you have a new calender.

Are there really people who need to make a note of all the meetups? I don't know that a lot of people travel all that much!

I didn't think we needed it until I realized two people at the London meetup I attended ended up on completely different continents within a month at other meetups. I try to hit a meetup whenever I travel, so I figured other people might be in the same boat.

This is as good a place as any to let everyone know that there's no way I'm going to be able to make both the Brisbane and Oklahoma City meetups this Friday. I thought I could spend about ten minutes at each, but either I misread Wikipedia or it was vandalized when I checked, because I thought Brisbane was in ACST. My bad.

Instead, I plan to spend that time in an inflatable raft in the Pacific Ocean at the point that is equidistant from the two meetups. I will have a camera, a piece of paper, and a sharpie.

Don't worry for my safety. Note that sharpies aren't really sharp.

- open Google Calendar
- lower left, you have a list of calendars, click the little "Add" button in that list
- paste in the whole url: webcal://feeds.technorati.com/event/http://metatalk.metafilter.com/
- Save
- click the tiny "manage calendars" link at the bottom of your calendar list and edit the calendar, change the name to MeFi Meetups
- done!
