Rounded tabs in the blue and green? November 20, 2007 8:01 PM   Subscribe

We've still got the CSS rounded tab corners in MetaTalk, so I assume they're not breaking anything - can we have them in the blue and green now? They're purty. Thanks.

Also, in the iPhone browser, the text-size of the "Home", "About", "Archives", &c links in the per-site nav menu is too big, as is the text-size of the links in all but the selected tab.

My iPhone browser looks fine in landscape mode. There's a little bit of line wrap in links but it's pretty easy to navigate and use.

Is there a way to specify iphone-only sizes in CSS?

First hit on Google for 'iphone-specific css'.

The cost of scissors required to round off all those corners is going to be enormous. The server might not be able to handle the vast scissor-load increase.

What? Rounded tabs in MeTa? Why don't I get this visual treat?

Oh, nevermind. You guys are hatin' on Opera users.

Scissors? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. On a related note, how much bandwidth will you save, since you'll have fewer pixels on the borders now? I mean, that's got to add up to like, what, hundreds of dollars a year? Don't you guys pay per pixel?

Actually, their biggest bandwidth cost is sending all that whitespace in the database out over and over again.

No rounding in the plain theme. So sad.

Yes, gargoyles!
include gothic.css
It will be so cool to see rainwater spouting from the metafilter browser.

The ecofriendly thing to do is to put maggots on the tabs and let them round the edges naturally. Do you know how much energy it takes to make a pair of scissors??

Has there ever been a design a metafilter theme contest? Because that would be pretty fucking rad.

Yup.

...or, rather, that was a "design MetaFilter proper" contest.

Where can we find the results? A quick scan didn't reveal them. :(

On the front page. The contest was three years ago.

Although, if you want to read about it, you can see results here.

Matt has recently said that one of the features being worked on it to open up the ability to let us write our own custom stylesheets for the site, followed by some way of voting/ranking the favorites. I'm not holding my breath, but if and when, that'll be totally cool. As long as he allows us to use images in the stylesheets.

I may have dreamed this, but I'm pretty sure he said it recently.

If you dreamed it, I'm seriously worried, because I remember it too.
