look at you people! December 15, 2007 3:25 AM   Subscribe

We've added a widget for checking out Meetup photos without having to leave placeholder comments in meetup threads. Check the MeTa sidebar.

It works like this: threads posted to the MeFi gatherings category have a little sidebar box in them (example). You can put URLs in them for meetup photo pages. Right now they post with a link to the name of the person who added the URL and that may need tweaking. Then there is a week's worth of past meetups on the mai MeTa sidebar. Threads with photos have the little pictures icon. This will also show up on the big past meetups page.

That's pretty cool. Can we have it in AskMe too? You know, for pictures of our cats.

Crazy awesome. I feel so privileged to have been present here during these end times, the final convergence of MetaTalk functionality with the meetup singularity.

I didn't notice this until I had left a placeholder comment. BUT I think I like having placeholder comments too, so you can say a little more (e.g. "here's why they're funny looking") and so you can see when they were posted.

Wow, I noticed that today and thought I had just missed the announcement. I went back and added a URL to our Brisbane meetup thread - this is an awesome addition! All the cool javascriptyajaximification is really cool to look at, too :)

Am I the only one who has learnt most of my javascript from reading the Mefi source code?

I'm going back to a few of the previous NYC meetups and tagging the photos...I guess it'll look like I took all the photos at every meetup. Oh well, hope nobody minds.

OMG awesoem.

That was an accidental typo but I'm going to leave it because it's sufficiently awesome to merit a new word.

Cool. The only bit that's a bit off is that some of the links to past meetups jump you into the middle of the thread, where the location is decided, but the photos are at the top.

Huh. Good point, smackfu. Maybe we could strip anchors from the links on the pictures icon.

Sweet, thanks!

pb just auto-stripped the anchor targets, so smackfu, that feature is done!

Thank you for adding this feature!

I like.

that feature is done

MeFi is like this magical place where I get to be the complaining user, instead of the developer that has to fix things.

Interesting note about this - if a meetup is still under "Upcoming meetups" and there are pictures linked, the neat little photo icon does not show up. The TO meetup had to happen prematurely due to a snowblizzardstorm, so it's over and pics are up but no pic icon. Just a note, not a gripe.
