Favorite/flag comments while previewing January 17, 2008 7:56 PM   Subscribe

Pony request: When previewing comments, can we please still be able to favorite & flag other comments in the thread? Or is there a reason otherwise?

The preview view of a thread doesn't have a lot of the newer features, it's sort of a relic. Is there some reason you can't just post your comment and/or just view the thread normally in another tab/window to accomplish this? I'm not sure why this is useful.

Seconding jessamyn—why on earth would you have a pressing need to favorite a comment during preview?

Because new comments show up in posts while I'm previewing. Sometimes when rereading comments in preview, something strikes when which I want to favorite. If I don't do it RIGHT THEN, I'll forget.
It's not exactly a pressing need and not that big of a deal...it'd just be nice is all.

My heart leaps a little bit every time this pony is asked for. It's like going to dinner at a nice restaurant and when you excuse yourself to the bathroom you're directed through the kitchen, out the back door, around to the parking lot, to a hole in the ground under your car. Then you come back to complain and the maitre d' says "What does the bathroom have to do with our exquisite menu?" I've made this MetaTalk myself, can you tell?

Oh, I take that back—I must've only emailed admins about it and nthed previous MeTa requests.

That's an easy dodge because the real problem isn't that you can't do those things; it's that the preview page breaks expectations of site functionality.

And now I'm all up in this thread like delklang.

We like to say that the preview page has "fallen behind", as if by accident, as if that is a deficiency—but the enlightened know that the preview page is, in fact, a test.

Ommmmmm.

(And, more productively—if we decide at some point to give Preview a perfect live-page-like facelift, this stuff will probably come along with it by implication, but until then we're not gonna make pb add this stuff just for the heck of it. Remembering a favorite you want to make for the fifteen seconds it takes to post is good for the old noggin'.)

This needs a saturday morning "hanker for a hunka cheese" type cartoon. Like the "don't drown your food" one.

I'm Cortex the lifeguard and happy to say
I rescued the old way of posting today!
They drowned it in 2.0, oh, what a shame.
Cause gui's are better that's practically plain!

So don't drown preview (yuck!)
In fav-rites or flagging or goo (oh!)
It's no fun to post if you can't even wait!
So don't drown preview!

Apparently the scientific name for ponies and horses is Equus caballus. Draw your own conclusions.

There is no conclusion.
