On the vagaries of intoxicated posting from the bowels of my "shithole" "corpse" of a city.

I wanted to apologize to the admins, but mostly to Gooffyy and Oddman, for (shall I say) pooping in the most recent Detroit thread. I took offense to their comments and resorted to name-calling and general misanthropy, effectively cementing, I'm sure, a lot of folks' prejudices about my hometown in the process.

This isn't to excuse my behavior, but if you heard half of what we Detroiters hear on a daily basis about the city from under-informed know-it-alls, you might be a bit sensitive, too. Anyways, feel free to delete this if it's not meta-worthy, but I wasn't sure how else to assuage the community that (a) not all Detroiters are assholes like me and (b) I'm genuinely sorry for jumping on you guys. I think highly of The Mefi and don't want any noobs emulating my ill-advised acts in that thread.

That said, I do not regret using the words "shithole" and "bowels" in the same sentence, though I'll probably post a meta-metapology for that tomorrow. Heh.

Hmmm. Seems like this could have been settled through email, although I'm genuinely touched by the sentiment.

You are forgiven.

Damn, I totally forgot that meta-mail existed. Shoulda, coulda.
"Cello, cello, cello, cello, cello, cello..." -- that's, like, my favorite live rock song perhaps in the history of Awesome, afrob. Thanks for the pick-me-up.

In case anyone is puzzled, here is the thread in question.

I...don't want any noobs emulating...

Agreed. Down with noob emulation!

Oh yeah, I realized how snarky my comment could seem, but let me assure you I was happy to see something this heartfelt on MeTa. For reals.

Poor Detroit. Well, for what it's worth, Los Angeles feels your pain.

In my mind no apology is necessary. It may be a shithole, but it's YOUR shithole, dammit. Everyone should be allowed to be proud of where they're from, without shame. Period.

Don't be bashful. Stand up and tell 'em you're from Detroit!

"Poor Detroit. Well, for what it's worth, Los Angeles feels your pain. "

Haha. I tell people all the time that LA looks like a lot of Detroit, but with PEOPLE all over. I was even amazed when I was downtown—there was more than one whore to a block!

Still makin' music, Joe?

I took that for what it was, piratebowling: a sweet sentiment. Thank you for that. And yeah, I'm still making music with Lisboa, kk. After a short hiatus, we're back working on a bunch of new tunes and will be playing out again in a month or two, hopefully at the Blowout. Now I feel obliged to bow out of the thread lest I finish this drink and start lectur-slurring everyone on the Tigers' inevitable '08 World Series win and the sublime urban aesthetic of The Fist.

Nice of you to want to apologize, joe, but I'm not sure we need this thread for it. Maybe drop a note into the original thread and/or mail and leave it at that? I'm going to go ahead and close this up.
