WTF? How come you quit opening all MeFi links in a new page? And what are those goddam photos on the right side all about? Jeezus! I just figure out these damn digital parking meters and somebody comes up with something new.

Uh, this may be a silly question, but is the "open links in new windows" checkbox still set in your preferences? It's working fine for me. (Firefox 1.5.0.8, Win XP)

I think you might be the only person who can see them.

You've missed out the 'Automatically check for updates' box though.

If you're logged out you couldn't make a MetaTalk post - but other than that it sounds like being logged out.

If not that, though, maybe V for virus?

Could you link to a screen shot of the photos you see on the right?

Also, even if it's set, you might have to go to your preferences page and save them again. At some point in the past, those things were set in cookies on the client side. And they might be, still.

You can open links in a new window (or tab, depending on how your browser is configured) yourself by middle clicking instead of left clicking. This works on any modern browser on any website.

Those photos are from Picasa, which you have behind your browser window. Go ahead and maximize IE, and they'll go away.

Why the hell did you throw away those shreds of steel wool. I WAS ABOUT TO USE THEM!

Every once in a while, I also see graphic adds while logged in. Right now, it's Dice.com. I guess about 1 in 5 front page views I see it.

I wanted to see photos on the right and I was checking this thread hoping there was a new feature. Say, each thread as a comic strip.

Try the checking/re-saving of your preferences that folks are suggesting. Sometimes when we add some functionality that involves links, the new links don't get the right html target="" attribute set, but that doesn't affect existing functionality so I think the problem is you.

And what are those goddam photos on the right side all about?

A screenshot here would be great. Not sure what you're talking about.

I think that's a reference to meetup photos on a sidebar. It's a nice way of organizing all the follow-up photos from a meetup event, so instead of everyone having to start "where are the pictures?" or "hey, here are my pictures!" threads, they can just add them to the original meetup thread where everyone was talking about it.

Wow I never even knew that was there. Thanks CCBC for this delightful thread.

I get the impression that this is a callout, but damned if I can tell what's being called out.

Oh! Maybe CCBC has upgraded to a new browser that opens new windows in tabs, and shows those tabs as little screenshots down the side. Like OmniWeb, for instance.

I didn't think you cared. I kept trying to open links in a new page, and you never seemed to notice. So I thought, "Why do I bother?"

And what are those goddam photos on the right side all about?

Don't judge me. I was lonely, and they were there for me. You can't go logging out all the time and expect me to wait forever. I'm only human.

Jeezus!

DON'T YOU DARE BRING OUR SON INTO THIS.

Dear MetaTalk Post #15765,

Even though I've only known you a short time, I feel very close to you and believe that you understand me better than any other post I've known. Remember how we started out with that silly misunderstanding, then we started talking about our preferences? That was hot. There was some conversation about meetups, but you never answered. :( Are you really single? I liked when we discussed about opening windows (because I believe that God never closes a door without opening a window), and then we spoke about kids (I would like to have children as soon as possible. You?). Our conversation has taken many twists and turns... anger, accusation, guilt, music, loneliness, conspiracy, advertising, internet; has it really only been 24 hours? It seems like a lifetime! If I had one complaint, it would be that most of our very intellectually stimulating conversation has been on my end, and I just wish that you would open up a little bit more. I understand that you may fear rejection (don't we all? lol!), and two favorites may not seem like that many, but I want you to know that I am here for you, whenever you are ready. You may have been hurt before, and I don't judge you for holding back a little, but let me help you learn to trust. We've invested too much in this relationship to give up now. ♥♥♥♥♥
