MeFiJobs map kills Safari March 10, 2008 1:57 PM   Subscribe

Just an FYI...Due to changes made over at GoogleMaps, the map on MeFiJobs now crashes older versions of Safari.

Google changed something with Maps about two weeks ago, making it violently incompatible with Safari 1.3.2. Not sure about early Tiger versions.

That's all.

Yeah, Safari below version 3 is really buggy now, all around on any site doing javascript stuff. Not much we can do on our end.

"Also, I'd like to complain that there are never any jobs posted anywhere near me. The closest current one is 335 miles away, which is a helluva daily commute."

It's your future ... I see a cab ride. Move out of the sticks, gentlemen.

Stickston has lousy public transportation, though.

I'd sure like to know what sort of stuff sites are doing now that is making Safari die. Javascript, per-se, has never really given Safari problems, in my experience. Some new gee-whiz-cool implementation?
I note, too, that GoogleVideo doesn't work in old Safari.

I think it's that the Safari team kind of abandoned the 1.x version -- fixes have been made to OS 10.4 that broke old Safari on a lot of sites with embedded javascript. I guess they want everyone to upgrade to a newer safari.

5,116 miles for me. I'm still calculating how many days I would spend commuting monthly.

Wait, the Jobs map actually works with Safari 3? 'cos I'm using Safari 3.0.4 and all I ever see is "Loading Map" (on both 10.4.11 PPC and 10.5.2 Intel). I don't really mind since (oddly) Portland doesn't seem to use MeFi Jobs, but is it working for other people?

Didn't realize the map wasn't working for Safari. I reshuffled the JavaScript a little, and it looks like it's working now for me in Safari 3.0.4.

Still crashes older versions. The problem is on Google's end. Firefox works fine, thankfully. Can't see any improvement/difference between the pre- and post-crash version of Maps, though.
