Trash talking April 8, 2009 10:18 PM   Subscribe

Is there a reason for not having a search facility in the podcasts section?

I'm in the market for a new bin. mathowie talked about THE BEST BIN IN THE WORLD on a podcast some time ago. I'd like to check it out. Does anyone know which podcast it was?

I think it was around xmas-time (like an early january podcast). It was a simplehuman half-round and it's like the most intelligently designed trash can ever.

Also, dude, third result for "trash" in metatalk.

The podcast section is just a filtered view of MetaTalk by category. So when you're searching MetaTalk you're searching the Podcast posts as well.

I think you're talking about Episode 35 where they discussed the Upgrade Me thread. Ctrl+F for "trash can" and you'll find it in the podcast links.

Okay thanks. I just thought you couldn't search podcasts because it doesn't appear in the search dropdown and there's no search at the top of the podcast page.

Ha! I have that trash can. Yay Mrs GuyZero for buying it. It is indeed a nice can.

For 90 bones, it better grind them up into vacuum sealed pre-labeled Soylent flavor bags.

I can also attest that Mrs GuyZero has nice cans.

Sorry.

Oh! and dude, it's not immediately obvious that as pb explains The podcast section is just a filtered view of MetaTalk by category. I went sometimes to the podcast page just to comment on the podcast. I never realised before today that I was commenting in the MetaTalk thread.
You, as creators of this site would be aware of this distinction. I am not. When I accessed the podcast page from the podcast page link and then clicked on the more inside or comment count it was not immediately obvious that I was now in MetaTalk. I thought I was just commenting on the podcast. It's clear for me now how it works.

I thought you were asking for full-text search of the content of the podcast and I was gonna go upside your head.

ditto.

I'd like to second Cortex's request of full-text searching and transcriptions of podcasts. It's a great idea, and I'm glad he suggested it. Having a mod's support really lends weight to the idea.

I gave it a shot a couple years ago, actually, but it didn't seem like it was worth the effort.

Maybe you could leave the podcast as a message on google voice and we could all marvel at the wonders of this mechanical age.

I mean, wander at the muffels of this Meg's maniacal mage.

even if a court-appointed stenographer were willing to transcribe each podcast, i know that i am one of at least a minority which simply prefers to deal with things in their original form. even if you have perfect transcription there is always something lost in the translation.

Okay, went and checked the bin out at Peter's of Kensington and there's no way I'm paying that much. Nice bin but…
