A Tale of Two Podcasts June 26, 2009 10:02 PM Subscribe
Can we please separate the download feeds for the Music podcast and the normal podcast?
Whilst organising some music and podcasts in iTunes just now, I noticed that I've gone and automatically downloaded both the Metafilter Podcast and the Music Podcast and they both appear in the same podcast folder in iTunes.
Now, as much as I like cortex and his shenanigans, the Music Podcast is something I have no interest in and it irks me to have them occupy the same space. Yes, I can delete them, no biggie, but I'd rather not have to download them in the first place. Given I've subscribed to the feed and downloading podcasts is an automatic process, I'd need to keep a watchful eye that iTunes doesn't ever start downloading a music podcast. Sounds like a lot of hassle.
That said, I'm sure that there are opposing points of view and others might want to keep them as part of the same feed. Is the consensus here that the two podcasts should remain together, or should we seperate them?

I love them and while I'd be fine with them being separate, it's easiest for me if they remain together.

Separate but equal podcasts? That's discrimination, son. We frown on that around these parts.

I've knocked together a couple of simple Yahoo! Pipes to filter the podcasts based on the title (assuming the Music ones will continue to have the form /^[0-9]*M:/:
Music Podcasts
Non-Music Podcasts
The links are RSS feeds so subscribe to them directly in your podcast application of choice.

If I recall correctly, the plan is to separate them at some unspecified point in the future, once the music podcast has gathered momentum.

I've gotten quite handy with the delete button for the music podcasts, but like yourself, would prefer to end the needless slaughter.

Yeah, it's sort of a hazy "probably" situation. Electric Dragon's pipe solution is a clever approach on the short term for folks who want to separate them automagically, since I intend to keep with that naming convention going forward.
