deleted post Two things? Explicit and transparent on the front page and on the inside, or so I thought. What's the second thing?

This post was deleted for the following reason: This feels like a post trying to do two very different things in a way that doesn't make sense as a contribution to the front page. -- cortex

It was deleted because of the crazy tinfoil-hat LaRouche shit. No argument is as stupid as an argument about the gold standard, sorry.

It would have been rude to put that in the deletion reason, but you knew it, didn't you?

Well, Rafaelloello, I'll tell you that from the wording of the post, I would have expected the song to play a much bigger role in the YouTube link than it did. I'm not sure why you played it up so much in the post.

If you want to make a good post about Gorecki, do that. If you want to make a solid post about the Austrian school of economic theory, do that. If you wanted to make a post about that specific video for its own sake, I don't think it would have been a great post but you ought to have made the post clearly about that.

What you actually posted was a weird mishmash post where it wasn't clear what you thought was the worthwhile locus and the post was picking up flak and flags pretty quickly.

That's *all* I was doing. I think you read too much into my explanation and supporting links, which were not the least bit veiled... I don't know. If the video had 3000 views instead of 200, I wouldn't have bothered. It looked like something obscure that had not yet been discovered, which is what I thought MeFi was about.

I think the point WAS the supporting links, kind of like my experience with a Mormon bake sale.

BTW, I had never heard the "stick to principle... phrase that was parroted throughout, so I searched and sourced that just to be informative, not propagandist.
posted by Rafaelloello at 5:54 PM on September 6, 2009

You framed the post quite poorly—it wasn't clear to a lot of people what you had intended it to be about. A better approach would be to explicitly introduce the content of the video and provide some context for why that content was interesting or noteworthy, if it was so. Mere obscurity doesn't make a good post; there's a difference between posting a real find and just posting something you found. Burying the lede doesn't help, either.

Symphony No. 3 (Górecki) , effectively used as background music, ostensibly promoting the philosophy of the Austrian School.

Too literal to be taken literally?

Poor form.

Rafaelloello, I may very well be interested in your philosophy and your posts, but your form is too poor, and derails my interest. Your grammar is obtuse, your choices for links and phrasing is inflammatory, and while it seems you crave feedback your history on MeTa has shown you incapable of taking it into account. Work on your delivery, work on your drinkability, and then try again. Keep in mind that you have an audience, that you need to find a way to appeal to that audience (especially if a simple description isn't immediately intriguing), and that your audience has high standards, a refined taste, and a good sense of humor. Godspeed, and I look forward to your next MeTa post.

Too non sequitur to be taken seriously. All you've got are a link to a Lew Rockwell post that doesn't reference Gorecki at all and a snippet of lyrics which could describe pretty nearly any progressive act (or transgressive, for that matter).

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. You asserted there's a relationship, so provide evidence and the post would have merit.

What's confusing here is the word "ostensibly," which makes it sound as though the linked video might not be a hacky piece of political-philosophical propaganda. When in fact the video is most definitely a hacky piece of political-philosophical propaganda.

But this is peripheral to the real problem with this post, which is that the linked video is terrible. Just atrocious. It's a bunch of stock photos set to nice music while disembodied voices alternate between batshit pronouncements and boring platitudes. No framing, however wizard-like, could have elevated a post constructed around this video into the realm of the acceptable.

Alternatively, what ardgedee said.

Lyndon LaRouche wants you to know that the Beatles and the official pitch of middle C are both CIA plots against humanity. Did you know that Robert Beltran from Star Trek: Voyager has been part of the LaRouche theater movement?

Rafaelloello do you really need to start a MeTa thread every time one of your posts gets yanked from the front page? WTF dude?
posted by nola at 6:37 PM on September 6, 2009 [2 favorites]

Even the title of the post was about the Gorecki piece, and the content of the video had little or nothing to do with the use of the music. It was bait and switch, pure and simple.

I say, in my day we could walk from Philadelphia to Boston without stepping in anything but cow shit. We dealt in specie and we damn well liked it, and we didn't have any fancy-pants composers creating odes to our commerce. Now if you'll excuse me, young man, I have to tend to my bifocal collection.
