Whatever happened to occhiblu?

As a longtime lurker over the years, I enjoyed occhiblu's comments more than anyone else's here, and I notice her account has been deactivated. No need to get personal, but end of story or has she been reincarnated? Or does she post elsewhere?
posted by semacd to MetaFilter-Related at 10:01 AM (60 comments total)

She left in early 2008. She's still active on MetaChat.

Not reincarnated, she is dealing with her sweetheart's proposal.

occhiblu is a great person - I'm sure she'd be willing to discuss her departure with you if you drop her an email!

occhiblu is alive and well and as edifying as ever. On Metachat and maybe elsewhere. We love her.
posted by Danf at 11:23 AM on September 9, 2009

Huh...hadn't noticed that until it was pointed out, but now I recognize the loss. I'm not on Metachat but if you do connect with her, convey my "missing-her-around-here" as well...

We are holding her hostage over at Metachat, pay us one brazillian dollars for her release.

We still miss her. I could be all unlazy and dig up my mecha login/pw to tell her that directly, but I'm lazy. Also, mecha freaks me out a little.

Still.

Um, honestly, I tried to get into mecha but I felt like I was crashing a party. Plus it's blocked at work due to the dreaded word "chat".

I hope that one day, when I am gone, someone posts a comment to MetaTalk saying, "Whatever happened to that shit for brains JohnnyGunn?" I imagine my absence will go unnoticed.

Motherfucker! How dare you scream the word 'lot' at us? Don't you know that shit doesn't fly around here? We take l-word capitalization very seriously, and here you are, just pissing all over our kitchen floor. This is tantamount to murdering our pets! In front of us!

Ban him! Ban the 'lot' shouter!

What's the word on that? Have I just put it in the blackout hole?

But asshat mefites, you are free to leave anytime you want, 'kay?

This is weird, because I know Sys Rq from Skyrates, which I linked here years ago and which sent roughy 2K mefites and lurkers over to their servers. I always just assumed Sys Rq was one of them. Did you somehow make your way over here from there, Sys Rq, or were you a longtime lurker here before you signed up? Or are there just two people going by that same name?

Far less importantly, I go by the name "Rash McAllister" on skyrates, which is something picked out of thin air. While was definitely something of a bigwig on that game in it's early days, it was still a very small thing, but the other night on a weird game-discussion site, I discovered that one of the major contributors goes by the name "Douche McAllister." Am I crazy and way too egotistical in thinking that I perhaps inspired this name?

Metachat is like Stepford where everyone seems to be happy and fuzzy and love bunnies at first glance, but in fact they're all machine-people working undercover for the man.

MeCha: I KNOW YOU'RE LISTENING!
posted by qvantamon at 3:57 AM on September 10, 2009

Why don't you call your boss on over, and discuss it with him?

I would, but I'm in organized crime, you see (some call it the Mafia, or La Cosa Nostra), and my boss is, you know, the "capo". And he's, well, got a real short fuse, plus he's prone to mistakes, so I don't want to risk any "capo error"...

Damn, he's on to us :-(

Actually, I can see why people are scared of MeCha - it's almost too friendly-seeming if you aren't already part of the conversation. Kind of like turning up at a party when everyone is already a bit tiddly and just starting to dance. It's easy to master though - just dive in, drink just fast enough to catch up without vomiting and you'll be fine. Some of the mods there are real bastards, though - just watch yourself ;-)
