Let's hook up in DC on Saturday night, 7-Nov. WHO'S WITH ME! [Cue Sound FX: Crickets.]

I don't know where, because I've never done this before, but anywhere in the city with Metro access is fine. I would guess the venue depends on the number of people who [claim they] want to go.

Somewhere that allows 18-year-olds in would be good--that was one of the criteria for the last one I went to.

Suggestions? Anyone? Bueller?

I'm down, but would much prefer somewhere in DC proper or the MD side this time. Did we ever go to Piratz Tavern?

Yeah, after last time I have pretty much sworn off Virginia forever. Holy hell.

Hook up romantically? I'm in Minnesota, but I might be up for a plane ride ...

We've got a couch if you need it.

Ever since we moved from a studio to a two-bedroom with our roommate I feel like the apartment's really empty so I keep trying to invite people to sleep on our couch. I think it drives my husband and roommate nuts.

I wish I could come down and meet the DC mefites but the MARC train doesn't run on the weekends.

Wait wait wait hookups in DC? I can drive for 3 hours, if she's cute.

Only I never got espousenated, so I'd probably just be a 5th wheel.

Josher - I'll be coming from Baltimore if you want to car pool.

This is probably a good a spot as any to post this news regarding the inspiration for the classic tune "Punch 'Em in the Dick."

No, not that kind of hookup. Or..wait. Maybe for some of you out there. Not me, though. Let's keep it platonic. ;-)

We did go to Piratz Tavern, yes. Not sure if I can make this one, though.

Ahahaha. Wow. So, I suggested the place and then flaked out. I am awesome.

I hereby withdraw from "place suggesting" consideraton for a while. I need coffee.

Doesn't Amtrak (marginally more expensive, last I looked) still run, though?

I'm belgium now
but potentially up for casual encounters following my return to the US

Oh man I don't believe you guys went to Piratz, next time go across the street to Quarry House for an infinitely better experience...

Whatever works. I too would prefer DC or MD. But something with an ostensible "outside area" for smokers?

Also, I'm looking for things to do in the DC Metro area on Halloween, if anyone can throw me... a bone! A-ha-hah-ha-a! A-ha-hah-ha-a!

Wow. I've never known a country personally before. Just don't expect me to defend your neutrality, 'cause we all know that one ends.

I'd be interested. I keep missing these for various reasons. And sundry. I keep missing these for sundry.

Allen, I think we're talking about Saturday. Sorry for the confusion.

Things are looking better re: my attendance.

Since it's Saturday, and things tend to get crowded, might I suggest meeting fairly early, like 6-ish? No thoughts on venue. Happy with Quarry House. Piratz was OK, but it was definitely a theme bar, and they sorta coast on that.

Personally, I'd love going somewhere on H Street NE (we had a great meetup at Argonaut, and H Street Country Club has minigolf and Skee-Ball) or Eastern Market/Barracks Row, but that's mainly because they're close to me. But I might not even come, so that's not a compelling argument.

Did someone say...SKEE BALL?! (i am skee ball champion. will annihilate all comers. and the drunker i get, the BETTER.)

I used to work in an arcade and as such am violently, VIOLENTLY anti-skeeball because those fucking machines take up more of your time than virtually anything else. They're really old so all the coins get stuck and people try to put in quarters instead of tokens and they constantly have the wrong number of balls in each machine and the balls get lost underneath things and people throw the balls and they always run out of tickets at the worst time. Fucking skeeball.

I heard about this minigolf. Now I'm interested . . .

The ones at H St Country Club take quarters, not tokens. Quarters do get stuck a lot, though. And there's no tickets to worry about, you're just playing for honor.

Also, the mini golf is pretty sweet there. Definitely try to get there early for that, though. They open at 5 on Saturdays.
posted by inigo2 at 9:48 PM on October 29, 2009

Okay, can we call this before it falls off of the front page? Say....6pm Saturday at H Street Country Club? (i know... i said i wouldn't...but...SKEE BALL!)
posted by youcancallmeal at 10:32 PM on October 29, 2009

H Street minigolf is compelling, good suggestion. The golf course is 21+ on Saturday, though. I guess they could go play...skeeball. Or something. Or eat Mexican food. Whatever. (Become 21 already, why don't you, geez.)

H Street Country Club at 6:00 PM on Saturday, 7-Nov. So let it be written; so let it be done (sorry, Yul Brynner). I'll be there. What about you? And you? And especially...you?

..amateur skeeball league? lolwut

Also also, it's not super close to the metro, but I believe there's a shuttle from Union Station. Plus various buses that go past it.

Oooh, I'll be in DC that weekend - hopefully I can make it and meet some Washington Mefites!
posted by Salamandrous at 3:10 PM on October 30, 2009

> it's not super close to the metro

According to wmata.com, you can either 1) get to McPherson on the Blue or Orange line and take the X2 toward Minn Ave, or 2) take the Blue or Orange line to Stadium Armory and take the B2 toward Mount Ranier or the D6 bus toward Sibley Hospital and get off within a block of the joint.

Or you could maybe get some free exercise and hoof it the 12 blocks (11 east, 1 north) from Union Station to the place. Work off some of that Pacifico beer you'll be drinking before the fact.

An aside: H Street doesn't take reservations other than for "formal events" (which this seems like the antithesis of) so...I guess just show up anytime after six and look for all the people from the internet. I'll probably be the tallest guy in the place if MoonPie is a no-show (like he keeps threatening).

I'm going to try to make it out again this time. Wish me luck that some other plague doesn't befall me/my apartment and hinder my attendance.

Heh. After all the "hook up" jokes upthread, I read "make it out" as "making out."

I'm a maybe - it's been a long week already, but I'm hoping I'll be up for it.

Looks like not--sorry! Have fun without me. Shoot me a Skee-Ball, or something.

I seem to have been stricken with the plague that's going around. That said, I'm going to rest up over the next couple of days so that I can make it down. Would appreciate any good health vibes. :)
