Can we have a Fuzzy Favorites option December 18, 2009 8:56 AM   Subscribe

Minor Favorites Pony Request: has favorites, lots of favorites, favoritest

In the last podcast (at 09:17), jessamyn mentioned that she has a greasemonkey script that replaces the numerical favorites with "has favorites," "lots of favorites," and "favoritest." I think I've tracked down the original greasemonkey script, but I was wondering if we could get that baked in as an option in the profile panel too.

I don't know if you'd want to have that replace the current "has favorites" option, which seems half way to fuzzy favorites already, or you might want to add it as it's own option.

Don't worry about it if it's a huge ordeal to add. Thanks for considering it!

I don't know whether adding it would be an ordeal from an implementation front, but from a community management and favorites-tweaking front I think we're in a bit of a refractory period right now and not inclined to jump into a new change to the system right away.

That said, I do think it's an interesting idea, and as a modification/addition to the faves view options rather than a modification to the default UI it might be worth chewing on for the future.

what cortex said. Use the script for now, get back to us maybe sometime later. I'm a little leery of even thinking about adding anything that has a "best/most/favoritest" option sitewide even though I enjoy sometimes seeing it via the greasemonkey script. The one I use now goes *, <3, ♥

Someday I won't giggle when I hear or read the word "refractory". But yeah, we're not going to touch favorites for several months after the last romp with them.

I chose "refractory" because I figured it would make people giggle.

refractory is a contraction of "recycling factory" ..that should clear things up.

I ended up tweaking plutors script a bit, and I thought someone else might like this version too. Basically:

0-4 favorites: no marking at all
5-9 favorites:    ★
10-24 favorites: ★★
25-49 favorites: ★★★
50+ favorites:   ★★★★

The comment with the most favorites (if 2 or more have at least 3 stars) gets a ♥ instead.

Next thing you'll want warm fuzzy favorites.

The thing about stars is it might be confused for an average vote. I'm sure it works for you but the potential for hurt feelings is there if not carefully tweaked for a mass audience.

0-2: has favorites
3-7: has fuzzy favorites
8-25: has warm fuzzy favorites
25+: who's a widdle favorite izzum izzum kootchie-koo?
