Just a teeny blip on the meta-Meta screen but I know how much y'all like that sort of thing: the guy who's trying to stay sober by drawing a comic a day noticed we were talking about him. Congrats on helping an alcoholic go another day without drink.
I like the strip a lot.
I like the strip a lot.
I love how he, depicting himself as person visiting MetaFilter for the first time, has the same reaction to the community as I do reading the blue every morning:
"Sweet."
"Who are these people?"
Also, that last panel is Hilarious. A manuscript? And the therapy circle, ha! Then the kicker, the perfect 'Metafilter:___' tagline. Great stuff.

This doesn't really need its own MeTa, as the link to the strip where he discovers MetaFilter is posted twice in the FPP. Also, we're smart enough to understand referrer logs. He gets no or few comments (one comic had maybe a half-dozen) but what happens is he sees a spike in traffic coming from MeFi. No Google needed.

Why not? Updates frequently go in posts like that, but updates where the owner of the web site noticed us are infrequent enough that they should get their own MeTa, methinks. That's pretty much SOP around here, no? And I think it works.

Yeah, and it's not just that the owner of a website "noticed us," but that he created a work of art about us. Uh ... that's pretty rare, and definitely worth a MeTa. The update posted near the end of the two-day-old FPP didn't seem to get much attention. I'm sure there are people who saw this MeTa thread, wouldn't have known about it otherwise, and thought it was cool/interesting. What's the point in complaining about this? Is there some quota of negative comments that must be made about every MeTa post?

I think the metatalk post is borderline fine, in a "someone on the internet is talking about Metafilter" way that adds another angle besides just "there is more information about thread x", for what it's worth.
Anyway, go Jed. I felt kind of weird about the way that thread went, particularly because—and kind of addressed this over there already so I won't go on about it—it's hard to imagine commentary on a relatively high-traffic-volume site like Metafilter not getting the direct and fairly prompt attention of the comic guy in question, so a lot of the armchair stuff feels more socially tonedeaf than it would otherwise if a thread were more of a Let's Talk About Major Media Entity thing.

"borderline fine" is a pretty awkward and opaque construction. I was going for "somewhere on the border of totally and unambiguously fine and maybe sort of grey area", which, uh, yeah. Probably overly specific. Point being I can kinda sorta see the "but there's an open thread" interpretation, but I don't think it's problematic in this context.
